FG set to celebrate World Youth Skills Day

The Ministry of Youth Development, says it has concluded arrangement to commemorate the 2024 World Youth Skills Day (WYSD) slated for July 16.

Mrs Omolara Esan, Director of Press in the ministry, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, said the event is themed: “Youth Skills for Peace and Development ”.

“This is in compliance with the declaration of the United Nations General Assembly for every member state to commemorate the day on every July 15.

“This annual event serves as an opportunity for member states to recognise the importance of equipping young people with the necessary skills for employment and entrepreneurship, as address challenges of skills acquisition amongst the youth,” Esan said.

She said that the programme would be in collaboration with other stakeholders in youth employment and empowerment.

According to her, the day aims to raise awareness about the crucial role of skills development in fostering peace and driving sustainable development, particularly in the ever-changing job market.

Esan said that the day provided an opportunity to encourage Member States of the United Nations General Assembly to prioritise and invest in youth skills development initiatives.

According to her, the ministry is committed to leveraging this occasion to inspire positive change and advocate for sustainable policies and programmes that prioritise youth skills for peace and development.
