NDLEA Seizes 537kg of Drugs, Arrests 46 Suspects in Yobe in 2024

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Yobe State reported the seizure of over 537 kilograms of illegal substances and the arrest of 46 individuals in 2024. NDLEA Commander, Mr. Abdulazeez Ogungboye, revealed this on Tuesday in Damaturu while summarizing the agency’s activities for the year. The seized drugs included 396.526 kg of marijuana and 141.2 kg of psychotropic substances. Ogungboye added that the agency secured 21 convictions from the 46 alleged offenders charged, while 85 cases remain pending in the Federal High Court, Damaturu Division. Additionally, the NDLEA provided counseling to 219 individuals with drug dependencies and conducted awareness campaigns across various sectors, including communities, schools, faith-based organizations, and workplaces. A mini-rehabilitation center established by the command successfully graduated five individuals from a three-month program, and five rural outposts were set up to extend outreach. Ogungboye called on the Yobe government to establish a proper rehabilitation center, replacing the current facility with only a 16-inmate capacity. He commended the state government and other partner agencies for their support throughout the year, reaffirming the NDLEA’s commitment to fighting drug abuse and promoting a drug-free society.
