Emirship Dispute: Jubilation in Kano as Appeal Court Rules in Favor of Emir Sanusi

0

Jubilation has erupted in Kano following the Court of Appeal’s ruling in favor of Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, in the long-running legal battle over the Emirship throne. Supporters, including both youth and the elderly, celebrated the court’s decision with music, dancing, and festivities. The ruling, delivered by the Appeal Court in Abuja, brings an end to a contentious legal dispute that had destabilized the Kano Emirate. The conflict began in May 2024 when Governor Abba Yusuf dissolved all Emirates and dethroned the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, while he was away. This decision paved the way for Sanusi’s reinstatement to the throne, with him moving into the Kofar-Kudu palace. Upon Bayero’s return, he was relocated to the Nassarawa mini palace, where he continues his duties.
