Awka Millennium City: ” Promise made, promise kept by Obiano” – Architect Okonkwo

Anambra state Commissioner for Housing, Architect Mike Okonkwo yesterday said the Awka Millennium city is a promise made and has been fulfilled by Governor Willie Obiano to Ndi Anambra.

Okonkwo said Obiano promised comfortable housing for Ndi Anambra, and he has kept his promise by what the M-P infrastructure is doing with the Millennium City.

Architect Okonkwo added that the move is in response to the Aku Luo Uno call by the Governor Obiano being part of Anambra state plans for housing development through Public Private Partnership. He noted that the estate is very dear to the governor.

Okonkwo spoke during the contract signing ceremony for the second phase of roads construction for the Millennium City held inside the estate between Awka Millennium City and Sagez Nigeria limited.

Already, www.odogwublog.com reports that the first phase of infrastructural development in the estate like the external roads have been completed while the second phase of the development project which is construction of internal roads has commenced.

It will be recalled that Awka Millennium city is the brain child of M-P infrastructure which signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Anambra state government in June 2019 to build smart city for Ndi Anambra.

Contributing, the Managing Director Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency Mr Jide Ikeakor, commended M-P infrastructure for achieving so much within limited time, as they have completed the first phase of the project including external roads and has started the third phase already proving their level of seriousness and preparedness to get the estate done with.

In his address, the Group Chairman M-P infrastructure limited Dr Clem Nwogbo represented by the Chief Executive Officer Awka Millennium City Mr Chimmy Ogbuebile said that work has steadily progressed as they are on course to achieving the vision of Governor Willie Obiano and their aim to build a world class smart city in Awka which will be comparable to what is obtainable globally and will be completed according to schedule.

According to Dr Nwogbo, they are about completing one point nine kilometers of road and will by next week, complete two point three four kilometers of the dual carriage road out of the five point eight one kilometers road within the estate to the tune of one point seven four seven billion naira.

Dr Nwogbo added that they have started to invest in estate utility services, procurement process for water infrastructure equipment, water tanks, treatment plans, pump and pipes among others.

The highpoint was signing of the contract between Awka Millennium City and Sagez Nigeria limited.

The media representatives later embarked on tour of the road project which has drainages on both sides in company of those who addressed the media as well as some of those present at the event including the Managing Director Anambra Broadcasting Service Dr Uche Nworah, the Managing Director Awka Capital Territory Development Authority Venerable Amechi Okwuosa, Engineers of the contracting firm, and other staff members of M-P infrastructure.
