7 in court over alleged breach of peace, willful damage
The police, on Monday, arraigned seven persons before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged breach of peace and willful damage.
The defendants: Oni Yinka, 49; Akinwumi Aderonke ,36; Olanrewaju Samson, 26; Emmanuel Sunday, 25; Temidayo Emmanuel, 20; Monday Ode, 19 and Emmanuel Jacob, 19, are facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and willful damage.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Feb. 25 at about 8 a.m. at Anglican High School in Ado-Ekiti.
He said that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by constituting nuisance in a public place.
Okunade also said that the defendants willfully damage louvre window, valued at N100,000, principal iron door, valued at N150,000, motorcycle, valued at N250,000, all property of Anglican High School, Ado-Ekiti.
He said the first defendant’s son, a student of the school, was beaten by another student, after which the woman followed her son, in company with family and friends, to fight back the student in the school.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 249(d) and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
Counsels to the defendant, Messrs Samson Aina and Michael Olaleye, urged the court to grant their clients bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Michael Faola, granted the seven defendants N100,000 bail each, with one surety each in like sum.
He, thereafter, adjourned the case till March 16, for hearing. (NAN)
