Prof Ahaneku celebrates four years in office as Vice Chancellor amidst pomp and ceremony

 ODOGWU EMEKA ODOGWU reports for www.odogwublog.com that Saint Joseph the Worker Chaplaincy Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) was agog penultimate Sunday 3rd June , 2018 when the family of Prof and Prof Mrs J.E Ahaneku went before God Almighty to thank Him for His numerous blessings upon them.


One of the blessings included the elevation of Dr (Mrs) Gladys Ifesinachi Ahaneku , a Consultant Physician with Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital , Nnewi , NAUTH who is also the wife of the Vice Chancellor of the Unizik, and leader of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Women Association (NAUWA) as a Professor.
NAUWA has championed a bakery for the University and done cancer screening among other innovations and most importantly galvanising women to support and benefit immensely from the administration of her husband and Vice-Chancellor of Unizik , Prof. Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku, FAS.


Though the main event was focused on the 4th year anniversary of Prof Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku FAS, as the 5th substantive Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
At the thanksgiving Mass attended by the creme de la creme in the University and the society by extension, the first reading was taken by the Vice-Chancellor himself, while the second reading and the sequence was taken by his wife, Prof. Gladys Ahaneku.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor , Prof Ahaneku said he was delighted at the turnout of the crowd, amongst whom were the crème de la crème  who have come to thank God with him. He thanked the Bishop for reminding the laity that we are all in a passing world.
He prayed that the legacy of the University is preserved, as it would promote the institution which is aimed at training, reforming; through knowledge and an enviable pride of Africa and the world at large.
Speaking about the Igbos, he said that they are hardworking and industrious, and it depicts the vision of the University, as it is seen in the products of the institution, even as he thanked the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano for providing an enabling environment. He equally promised to make donations towards the building of the church as part of his gratitude to God, and urged others to join in doing so.
Prof Ahaneku’s legacies in Unizik is a story for another day as space won’t allow us to dwell on it now.
Bishop Ebere Okplaeke in his homily entitled, “take and eat”, stressed on the need for Christians to be always grateful to the Almighty God at all times no matter the situation as He knows the best, pointing out that gratitude to God for His favour is one of the greatest virtues.
He noted that Prof Ahaneku has done very well to have gathered people from every sphere of life to show gratitude to God for seeing him through his four years in office, and asking for His continued directive and protection, enjoining everyone present to live a life of thanksgiving and appreciation to God for his benevolence.

In his speech, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nkem Okeke expressed the need for those who are given opportunity to lead, to make effort in leaving legacies behind, adding that the VC has done well in his administration, as the relationship with the Chinese Government speaks volume.
Dr. Okeke stated that Education is the key for development in any society, because that is where the youths who are the hope of the nation are trained.
The Ahaneku family attracted donations for the building of the Chaplaincy as the Deputy Governor, Anambra State, the CEO, Juhel Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Ifeanyi Okoye, the Secretary to Anambra State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Kate Omenugha, the Ahaneku Dynasty, the Director, Information & Public Relations, Dr. Emma Ojukwu, Deans, HODs, Professors of the University, traditional rulers, Friends and well-wishers amongst others appreciated the family by supporting God’s work.
