Though some offices in Awka the state capital were open and the Civil servants and Nnamdi Azikiwe University staff were all in the office even when there are scanty buses and other service providers. The civil servants went as a result of mandate from Governor Willie Obiano that they must attend or be sanctioned.
Umunze and other communities in Orumba South and North as well as Aguata local government area observed sit-at home order issued by Indigenous People of Biafra.
Hitherto busy Nkwo market road in Umunze town was all locked up as the indigenes of the town gave full compliance to the order in memory of their slain brothers who were victims of civil war, Boko Haram , Fulani  Herdsmen attacks and other killings in the country.
As early as 7:00 O’clock in the morning, youths were seen engaged in all manner of play in the usually busy Nkwo round-about. The usual hold-up which is often witnessed at the Nkwo round-about was not seen as vehicles were very scanty on the major roads. Elsewhere along Umunze-Owelle-Ezukala road, the road was dry and short of any movement.
Pedestrians were scarcely seen, shops were locked with an occasional noise of children. Filling stations were all closed. None of the popular joints in the heart of the town was seen open as at the time lof filing this report.
When newsmen visited the popular Nkwo market road and other streets connected to it, it was observed that the entrances leading to the market were locked while shops and other kiosks were locked up too with market guards seen quietly moving round to ensure that hoodlums do not invade any shop.
When asked why the shops were closed, a popular trader who deals on cosmetics explained that it was general decision of the market Union to close shops so as to mourn Igbo brothers and sisters who were gruesomely murdered by the enemy.
“We had a meeting sometime last week, and we agreed that no shop should be seen open today”. The trader who gave his name as Innocent went further to express his joy on the full compliance to the order and urged fellow Biafrans to maintain the spirit of togetherness.” I am Biafran and I support Biafra activities. Igbo are beginning to have a sense of brotherly love and togetherness as you can witness today.
Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, men of the Nigeria Police force were seen quietly monitoring the area and ensuring that no form of road block or violence was carried out.
