IGP's wife berates absentee parents

www.odogwublog.com reports that wife of the Inspector General of Police, Princess Asmau Ibrahim Idris yesterday berated absentee parents who abandoned their responsibility of raising godly children because of their jobs cum career.

Idris made the remarks while addressing people during the flag off of a sensitization rally against child trafficking; cultism; and drug abuse organized by the state command of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), wherein she is the National President.

She lamented over the rising number of youths involved in drug abuse; cultism; as well as those involved in child trafficking, saying "being too busy at work is no longer tenable for abandonment of our wards. We must cultivate moral instructions on our children", Mrs Idris said.

According to her, the youths are the hope of parents, saying they should shun social vices and face their education squarely, saying the Police statistics on the vices is worrisome as many are between 15 and 29 years of age.

Princess Idris maintained that she is a firm believer in the capacity of women to add value to lives and improve society, saying POWA Imo State chapter has taken up a good campaign.

On her part, wife of the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mrs Clara Chris Ezike said the programme was their contribution to lend a voice to the problems in the society.

She noted that newspaper reports abound that the vices have become worrisome challenges in Imo State because " our children and youths are the most affected, we have become concerned and apprehensive that if nothing is done, the sweetness of our tomorrow may be destroyed by the silence of our today ".

Mrs Ezike said the sensitization rally "reminds us of our roles in ensuring that we do not indulge, encourage or shield offenders who debase society through child trafficking, cultism, and drug abuse".

Earlier, there was a courtesy visit to Governor Rochas Okorocha; and road shows. The event attracted wives of other sister agencies.
