Vice Chancellor COOU, (Anambra University) Prof (Sir) Fidelis Uzochukwu Okafor, sacked, as students protest (Open Letter)

AN OPEN APPEAL TO THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF ANAMBRA STATE, CHIEF DR. WILLIE MMADUABUROCHUKWU OBIANO (AKPOKUEDIKE GLOBAL) FROM THE STUDENTS UNION GOVERNMENT, CHUKWUEMEKA ODUMEGWU OJUKWU UNIVERSITY, ANAMBRA STATE.
ON THE PRESENT CONDITION (SITUATION) OF/IN CHUKWUEMEKA ODUMEGWU OJUKWU UNIVERSITY.
Preamble:The Students Union Government on this medium, congratulates the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief (Dr) Willie Obiano for winning 21/21 in the just concluded November 18th gubernatorial election; the first in history.
Also, using this medium to thank you on your developmental strides as it concerns the students of ChukwuemekaOdumegwuOjukwu University; we observe the street lights being mounted on the University road. The University has gained so much from your administration starting from the increment in the subvention of the University, as well as the construction of the Engineering Complex at Uli Campus and the Giant Pharmaceutical Sciences Faculty Building at Igbariam Campus. We however, do expect more of the development in this second tenure. Congratulations once again!
Be that as it may, Our Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Sir) Fidelis Uzochukwu Okafor is a peaceful man who loves humanity and cares selflessly for humanity in all ramifications. He has transformed ChukwuemekaOdumegwuOjukwu University from worst to best through the intervention of the State Government led by His Excellency. He initiated the annual convocation system in the University, introduced new Departments and Faculties; giving more opportunity to youth of being fixed into COOU. This is evident at the just concluded Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) application which attracted over 30,000 applicants in COOU.
Prof Okafor also has bettered the Institution’s academic calendar in such a way that students graduate and proceed to NYSC immediately after their graduation (this only happens in COOU).
However, the present situation in the University reveals that the Vice-Chancellor was issued with a letter informing him that his tenure elapses on 10th September, 2018, instead of 2019 as provided by the University Law signed by His Excellency Himself. This has brought so much confusion in the Institution, affecting the stability of the University Academic Calendar as the already scheduled convocation has been postponed indefinitely.
Recall that some concerned students nearly took to streets on Friday, March 02, 2018, as a result of the ongoingcrisis in the University. The students were however, calmed down by the Students Union Government, and promised that the issue would be resolved.
The Students Union (SUG) appeals to the Student-loving Governor of Anambra State therefore, that:
1.    The tenure of the Vice-Chancellor ends in September, 2019.
2. a.If the law of the University has been sidelined, and a four year (4-year) term adopted, that the students be enlightened more.
b. If so as stated in 2aabove, and that the Vice-Chancellor accepts to handover in September, 2018, and is entitled to 6 months leave, he has the option of consenting to proceed for the leave if he so wishes; it is only an entitlement and not mandatory.
3. a. If the Vice-Chancellor accepts to proceed on the mandatory leave which however, has a punitive connotation, has the right to appoint someone to oversee the affairs of the University during his leave.
b. If the Vice-Chancellor- Prof. F. U. Okafor has indeed appointed someone to act for him during the leave, could the appointment be allowed to stand until a proper handover is made to whomever the State Government so wishes.
PRAYER:
The students of ChukwuemekaOdumegwuOjukwu University Community being represented by the Students Union Government seek the Anambra State Government, led by His Excellency, Chief (Dr.) WillieMaduaburochukwuObiano (Akpokuedike Global) to reinstate the Vice-Chancellor- Prof. Fidelis Okafor in the interest of the students and allow him stay till the end of his tenure in 2019, or at least allow him complete 2017/2018 academic session without going on any leave. This will afford the University opportunity of following its Academic Calendar as we pray for a smooth change in the office of the Vice-Chancellor of the University.Long live His Excellency! Long live COOU!! Long live Anambra State!!!
ALUTA CONTINUA, VICTORIA ACETA…
