UNICEF Donates Pick-Up Trucks, Motorbikes for WaSH to Anambra Government



UNICEF has donated three pick-up trucks and two motorbikes to Anambra State Government to support Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, (WaSH) Wash-related activities in the state.

Governor Willie Obiano on behalf of the State government, received the vehicles and motorbikes at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia, yesterday.

UNICEF has been a major partner with Anambra State Government since 2012, working on a Water and Sanitation Reforms Programme funded by the European Union.



The WASH program which focuses mainly on provision of safe drinking water to the people and ending open defecation, has assisted the state under the present administration, perform excellently resulting to the emergence of the wife of the Governor, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano as the WaSH Ambassador.
Receiving the keys after a closed door meeting with the Chief of WaSH section, UNICEF Country Office in Nigeria, Mr. Said Jurji, Governor Obiano explained that their discussion centered on WaSH activities in the state and what could be done differently, to improve on them.



The Governor while noting that the state had set up a viable structure for effective implementation of the WaSH programmes, thanked UNICEF for the donations which he maintained, will go a long way in strengthening monitoring and supervision of WaSH projects ongoing across the state.



The UNICEF Chief of WaSH section, Mr. Jurji in his remarks, expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded by the state under the initiative but pointed out that there is still room for improvement.



Thanking Governor Obiano for his hospitality and support towards the WaSH programmes, Mr. Jurji said they will continue to partner the state across the specified areas.



Handover of the keys to the vehicles and motorbikes formed the highpoint of the event.
