reports that the member representing Oyi constituency in the state house of
assembly Mrs. Vivian Okadigbo has urged the Federal government to ensure the
rehabilitation of the Umunya-Nteje
Awkuzu junction stretch of the Enugu-Onitsha expressway for the easy passage of
commuters.
Mrs.
Okadigbo while exchanging views with journalists in Awka, decried the state of
the road and solicited its immediate rehabilitation before the rainy season
catches up with it.
She
stressed that being a federal road, the government at the centre needs to fix
it to give more room to the working governor of Anambra sate Chief Willie
Obiano who is saddled with a lot of official responsibilities.
It will
be recalled that in a bid to alleviate the plight of communities using the
expressway, the state government initiated moves to construct a bridge at Nteje
off the expressway.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Transportation Right
Honorable Rotimi Amaechi says the actualization of the Igbo presidency can only
by achieved through their hand shake across the Niger.
Right
Honorable Amaechi who gave the indication during the 12th convocation lecture
of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University titled the ‘Igbos in the politics of Nigeria
noted that the igbo project should be followed by the Igbos dialoguing with
other sections of Nigeria’s ethnic nationalities.
According
to the minister, Igbos should assert their Igboness in the Nigerian project and
put behind them the travails of the nation’s civil war.
The
minister said the present Buhari administration has initiated the const ruction
of the second Niger bridge, the rehabilitation of the Enugu-Onitsha expressway and
the inclusion of the south east geo-political zone in the nation’s railway line
system.
In a
speech, the national president of the Ohaneze ndigbo, chief John Nnia Nwodo
urged the minister to assist in speaking out to the authorities the insecurity
in the nation, the menace of the fulani herdsmen, the lopsided appointments of
security personnel in Nigeria, among others.
Chief
Nwodo called for the review of the 1999 constitution as amended to address the
agitations of all ethnic nationalities in the country.
Speaking
on the issue, Prof. Joel Igbokwe of the department of surveying and
Geo-informatics Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka campus, encouraged the Igbos to
strive to be at the center of national politics to partake in the sharing of
the national cake.
