NUJ gives vote of confidence on Deacon Chris Isiguzo and Comrade Kenneth Ofoma, demands action fro South-East Governors on Fulani Herdsmen

WWW.ODOGWUBLOG.COM BRINGS YOU A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF EXPANDED NUJ ZONE C (SOUTH EAST) MEETING AT ENUGU PRESS CENTRE ON 18TH JANUARY, 2018
After successful Expanded Zonal Working Committee Meeting of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Zone C (South East), the meeting resolved as follows:-
1. The Zone condemns in its entirety, the recent killings by herdsmen in some states like Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, Enugu and others, and calls the Federal Government to initiate moves to stop forthwith such mayhem on innocent and defenseless Nigerians.
2. The Zone calls on South East Governors to take a common stand and reject the proposed cattle colony in the zone.
3. The Zone calls on the Federal Government to without further delay, fill in the vacant position of the South East National Commissioner in INEC, which has been vacant for more than a year now, and urged South Easterners of voting age to utilize the ongoing voter registration exercise to update their voting power.
4. The meeting condemned the lingering scarcity and hike in fuel pump price and calls on the Federal Government to take immediate action to revert to the normal price and deal decisively with the perpetrators of this national embarrassment.
5. The Zone calls on the Federal Government to realize that South East is a component of Nigeria and so should do everything possible to accommodate it in all spheres of national issues including the national Security Council where they have no representatives and other appointments.
6. The Union calls on Houses of Assembly in the South East to endorse the Local Government Autonomy in the ongoing constitutional amendment.
7. The meeting commends the Federal Government on the award of contract for the rehabilitation of 9th Mile –Otukpa- Otukpo- Makurdi road, and Port-Harcourt-Enugu Expressway, and urged contractors to expedite action on the roads while asking the Federal Government to extend the rehabilitation to other Federal roads in the zone.
8. The meeting commends the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the successful conduct of gubernatorial and Anambra Central senatorial elections in Anambra state and urged the Commission to keep it up as the 2019 general elections draw closer.
9. On the state of the Union, the meeting calls on members to make good use of the ongoing NUJ Biometric registration to update their membership, and ensure prompt payment of their check off fees as directed by the National secretariat of the Union.
10. The meeting calls on the leadership of NAWOJ in the Zone to carry along and work harmoniously with the chairpersons of the states in the zone as well as the National leadership of NAWOJ for the sake of peace and progress of the Union.
11. The meeting rose in unison to commend the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his assistance in the hosting of the just concluded Expanded Zonal Working Committee meeting in Enugu.
12. The Union after reviewing the activities of the Zonal leadership unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the present Leadership of the zone led by Deacon Chris Isiguzo and Comrade Kenneth Ofoma.
