Lawyer in trouble for abducting a teenage girl for three weeks in Onitsha

An Onitsha based legal practitioner,  (names withheld), is said to be

in trouble for allegedly abducting a teenage girl for about three

weeks without the consent of her parents .

It was reliably gathered that prior to the abduction, the parents of

the girl handed her over to a foster family where she was  serving as

a house help in Awada, Onitsha suburb.

After staying with the foster family for some months, she had

misunderstanding with the said family claiming that she was being

maltreated which prompted her to abandon the family to an unknown

destination.

However,  she was reported to have run into a lawyer, who after

complaining to him about the maltreatment she received  from  her

foster family, he comfortably abducted her for about three weeks in

his residence at 3-3 Area, near Onitsha, without taking her to her

parents or foster family where she ran away from.

Disturbed that their daughter's whereabout was unknown, the parents of

the girl repoted the foster family at Awada Police station since the

foster family lived with the girl at Awada before she ran away.

In collaboration with the family of the girl and the police a search

party was set up and after intensive search, the girl was found in the

residence of the lawyer at 3-3 Area,

The lawyer was then arrested by the 3-3 Police and handed over to the

Awada police for further investigation.

Confirming the incident, the 3 -3 Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Mrs

Jane Mbanefo said, "the problem we have in this area is people who

claim to be lawyers without decorum."

"No week passes without somebody who claims to be a lawyer, coming to

the station and trying to intimidate my policemen aimed at achieving

his/her selfish interest.

Just like this case now, upon that he commited a criminal offence for

abducting the girl for about three consecutive weeks, still he has the

gut to claim innocent of the offence.

This is just a tip of the iceberg, there are so many cases like that

and what I do is to immediately charge such cases to court so that

they go there and settle" she hinted.
