The women Action Committee (WAC) with technical support from the national Democratic Institute (NDI) and funding from united states Agency for International Development (USAID) Launched the “women come out and vote” campaign yesterday in Awka Anambra State.

According to the host professor Mrs Mercy Anagbogu, she said that the goal of the campaign is to increase the participation of women in political processes through inclusive elections.
She went further to explain that the “woman come out and vote” campaign seeks to mobilize woman in Anambra State to participate actively in the electoral project. Many categories of women will be mobilized to exercise their franchise in the forth-coming Anambra election on 18 November. She said.
 She asserts that the campaign is a motivation for women that have  not been participating in the elections and women who have no knowledge about elections, no skills, adding that that they are now  rebuilt and powerful.
 The professor lamented on the fear and anxiety that always engulf the women and lead to inadequate participation in politics.
She maintained that through various trainings and counseling the women’s ego has been restored and that same are now proud and intelligent enough to know the right person to vote.
 The special adviser to governor on special matters and also special adviser to governor on internal generated revenue Dr Mrs Amaka Akudo who represented the governor that women are the backbone of the society.
She commended the host for her unrelenting effort in mobilizing the women to participate fully on the election process. The SA to the governor on behalf of the governor promised the women that Akpokue on his second tenure will do more than he has done.
 She assured the women that maximum security will be provided for them and their children on the day of election
.The first woman governor in Anambra state and in Nigeria as whole Dr Mrs Dame Virgy Etiaba commended his Excellency on his hard work and urged the women  to come out in their numbers and vote the working governor for second tenure.
 She applauded the governor for recognizing the women. She went further to say that no force can stop the incumbent governor from returning for a second tenure.
 The senior Resident director of National Democratic Institute (NDI) Mr Hubrrey Mccutcheon said that Anambra is a very strong state adding that his agency is here to sensitize the women about the forth-coming election.
 According to the director he said that he has lived in Nigeria for 17 yrs and has worked in over 75 countries in Africa.   
 Meanwhile he said that he is here to identify with the women, youth and people with disabilities and to ensure a peaceful election in Anambra State.
Public Relation officer of INEC, Barri Mrs Nneka Elogu  said that women participation in politics is very important. She said that women are more proactive and more determined in running a public office. Sensitizing the women will be of great important to the state because the women has greater influence on the society. She stressed.
