82 Division, Nigerian Army vows to investigate allegations of human rights violation, kilings by Army in Abia

www.odogwublog.com reports that the 82 Division  of the Nigerian Army with headquarters  in Enugu, yesterday said it has commenced investigations in  the  alleged human rights violation  against the Nigerian Army, posted in the social media,where troops were purportedly shown to have humiliated some people at a check point in Abia state.

The Deputy Director, Army Public relations attached to 82 Division of Nigerian Army,  Colonel Sagir Musa, dropped this hints in a press statement released in Enugu, a copy of which was made available to 'The Authority'.

His words, The attention of the Headquarters 82 Division Nigerian Army has been drawn to a video clip trending on social media and other platforms purportedly showing troops humiliating some people at a check point in Abia State, Nigeria. The issue is being investigated with the view to ascertain the source and the actors in the clip'.

Col.Sagir Musa said the Army will deal ruthlessly with any officer found to be involved in the act.

'Our Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement are quite clear and any officer or soldier that infringed on any of such directive if found guilty, will face full wrath of the military justice system'.


However, He stressed that the Army is very much aware of the plans hatched by members of Indigenous People of Biafra[IPOB] to use propaganda and false video clips to discredit the Army and cause disaffection among the citizens.

'We would like inform the public that 82 Division is also aware of the planned misinformation and propaganda arrangement by the secessionists Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). They intend to churn out prerecorded video clips aimed at discrediting the Nigerian Army, causing disaffection among the citizens of this country. They will be using bogus, manipulated and photo-shopped photographs as well as video clips'.


He cautioned members of the public to be wary and discard such mischief and possibly report such deeds to the Nigerian Army or some other security agencies.

The public should be wary of such mischief, scrutinize and report same to the Nigerian Army or any of security agencies. He re instated the commitment of the 82 Division of Nigerian Army in securing the lives and properties of all Nigerians in it's operational areas,especially in the South East zone of the country, as enshrined in the constitution of the country.
  
He stated,' We do not condone any act of indiscipline in the conduct of our operations and training exercises. Any claim of rights violation would be investigated and when confirmed, appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against the erring personnel'.

In another development,the Nigeria Immigration Service,Enugu state command,yesterday said the command is at alert and partnering with other security agencies to checkmate any act of lawlessness in the state,stating they are working in synergy to ensure there is no break down of law and order in Enugu state and beyond.

The Comptroller of Immigration Services,Enugu state Command, Mr Mathew C.Okosun, made the disclosure while speaking  to news men in his office  yesterday. He revealed that  the unruly activities of Indigenous People of Biafra[IPOB] are not experienced in Enugu state,partly based on the harmonious working relationship existing among all security agencies in the state.

He said they have made it a point of duty to embark on joint patrol very often.  He pleaded with the residents of the state to go about their normal businesses and report any unlawful assembly within their residences to the nearest security outfit within their zone.

He stressed that the greatest challenge to effective policing of the environment is the idea of hoarding information security agencies by members of the public. He called for a change of  such attitude.
