Ozubulu St. Philips Catholic Church death toll rises, as Obiano weeps, CP vows to arrest gunmen

www.odogwublog.com reports that gunmen on mask this morning Sunday August 6, 2017 by 7:30 am mass attacked St Philips Catholic Church Amakwa Ozubulu in Anambra State, this morning.

The gunmen sent to Ozubulu allegedly from South-African based Mbaisi Imo state man sequel to business gone awry shot into the worshipers killing and injuring many.

It was not clear , how many worshipers died but while some said 20 died and 50 injured including a Revered Father, the police Anambra state command relying on the Teaching Hospital Nnewi figure said 8 persons die and 18 injured.

A statement from PPRO ASP Nkiruka Nwode made available to Odogwublog.com quotes the CP Garba Umar of saying the police would not leave any stone unturned in fish out the perpetrators but said the preliminary investigation points out to two sons of the community living outside Nigeria.

While describing it as sacrilegious, CP Umar said the identities would soon be made public even as he commiserated with the victims and their families. He asked the public to be vigilant and report suspicious movements.

Meanwhile, Governor Willie Obiano who visited the Community and NAUTH Nnewi where the injured were being treated thanked the over 50 medical doctors battling to save their lives, assuring the injured families that all medical bills would be taken care of by his government.

Obiano while confirming that the feud was between two families in Ozubulu said 11 were killed and commiserated with the families of the deceased. He said it was sacrilegious and unacceptable , assuring that the perpetrators would be fished and punished accordingly.  

   Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Aspirant , Mr Oseloka Obaze in his reaction said : ‘’Our heart goes to the family and parishioners of St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra, where unidentified gunmen reportedly killed several church members and wounded several others early today.  Such violent incidents dehumanizes our society’’.

St Philip’s is reputed as a purposed built architectural masterpiece, a luxurious place of worship consecrated about two years ago by the

Speechless Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Most Rev Dr Odili Okeke consecrated the worship place two years ago built by one of the feuding parties Ebubechukwu Uzo Ozubulu High Chief Aloysius Nnamdi Ikegwuonu.

Dead bodies were taken to Ozubulu Joint Hospital mortuary while injured were sent to NAUTH with Prof Anthony Igwegbe and other management team on ground to salvage the situation.
