Ozubulu Church terror attack: St Philips sealed off as 300 Priests mourn on red

www.odogwublog.com reports that Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB has given the security agencies an ultimatum to find out the killers of Ozobulu worshipers.

Ozubulu people are still at lost on why gunmen invaded a Roman Catholic Church, St Philip’s at Umuezekwe Ofufe Amakwa Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Anambra State and opened fire on innocent worshipers, killing 15 mostly women and children injuring over 30 others. They insisted the attack could best be passed as Terrorism attack and nothing less.

Transition Committee Chairman of Ekwusigo council area, Hon Ofodeme Ikenna , an engineer and the President General of Egbema Progressives Union, Ozubulu, Chief Timothy Nwadike insisted the attack on innocent worshippers was nothing but a terror attack.

Ofodeme said at the last count six people-five women and a child strapped in front of the mother were confirmed dead at the Church and later another 6 died making it 12 corpses confirmed dead after the melee. He said 27 people are currently at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching hospital (NAUTH) receiving treatment while a few have been discharged.

The Ekwusigo local government boss raised alarm that Churches are now endangered following such terror attack on innocent worshipers ruling out any family crisis as alleged, even as he rued turning the event to political cheap points by politicians when innocent lives were lost.
He said God is watching and would not only expose those behind it but revenge the attack on those who perpetuated the attack as the souls of the innocent are already on prowl seeking revenge. He said the attackers wouldn’t have come to the Church, if Chief Ikegwuonu aka Bishop as they know Bishop’s residence.

Although the St Philip’s Catholic Church Ozubulu was still sealed, over three hundred priests led by the Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Nnewi , Most Reverend Hillary Okeke held a special mass in honour of the dead church members   during the terror attack.

The priests robbed in red signifying martyr during the service witnessed by some members of the community were a sober and solemn service. Hey defied the heavy down pour which they attributed to a loving memory of the departed.
Bishop Okeke asked the perpetrators of the act to repent and return to God even as he asked worshippers to continue to hold fast to their faith. The Church prayed for the repose of the souls of the dead and recovery of the injured.
Hon Ofodeme had confirmed that there was no electricity I the church when the incident happened and that Rev Fr celebrating the mass confirmed they were using candle light and he saw a lone gun wielding man in black attire coming from the back door towards the alter and before he could say Jack , he opened fire on the alter forcing him to lie flat and when some rushed to the two exit doors close by, the gun wielding stranger opened fire on them.  He said Bishop left the community on 29th after a football tournament in his honour where he scored the winning goal and could not be linked to the shooting.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign
State of Biafra, MASSOB, otherwise called Biafra Independent Movement,
BIM, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, yesterday issued a 7-day
ultimatum to the security operatives to fish out the perpetrators of
the dastardly act. He said if the order fails, BIM, through her commandos, would take
over the security of Anambra state.

Making the vow while addressing BIM members at Ifite-Dunu, Dunukofia
Local Government Area of the State, Uwazuruike who will storm the
state on 13 September 2017 to commission BIM secretariat at Uga,
Aguata Council Area, reiterated that "we can not take this any more
since the security operatives could not be able to protect lives and
property of the people".
Hon Engr. Ikenna Ofodeme , Transition Committee Chairman Ekwusigo council area addressing newsmen

"How can this happen in a Biafran land and those behind it left to go
scot-free. It will not happen and let me remind you also that the
gubernatorial election billed to take place in the state come November
18 this year must hold"

"Those who are saying that it will not hold are day dreamers because
they know it is not the best option to express their grievances, they
can not cry more than us BIM that started this journey to actualize a
Biafra republic, they are all our off-shoots"

Uwazuruike who spoke through the Commander of BIM Commandos, Chinedu
Chukwu, regretted that Igbos have been greatly marginalized and urged
the Igbos in the North to come home as ordered by Arewa youths
stating that "you are there at your own peril"

Chukwu flanked by the Anambra Central Zonal leader/Uwazuruike's Personal
Assistant, Comrade Emmanuel Omenka and the Acting Central Zonal
lealer, Mr James Ezeani, he expressed satisfaction that achieving
Biafra republic would soon be a reality.

It would be recalled that last Sunday at about 6.30am while
Worshippers were in the church at St Phillip’s Catholic Church, Umuezeakwa
Ofufe Amakwa Ozubulu, armed men numbering about four stormed the
Church and started shooting indiscriminately and on the process about
15 people and injured over 35 others.

Police in the state said only eight were killed while ten received
various degrees of injuries.

As at the time of filing this report, the said church has become
Pilgrimage of a sort as people from far and wide throng the scene to
have a glimpse of the church.
