Ozubulu Church Massacre: Aloysius Ikegwuonwu aka Bishop disowns Obiano on gang war , says he is no drug baron , knows nothing about the killings

High Chief Aloysius Ikegwuonwu aka Bishop , Ebubechukwu Uzo has clashed with Governor Willie Obiano over his claims that the terror in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo council area was a gang war from another African country into Nigeria.
Bishop as well absolved himself from the killings at St Philip’s Catholic Church Ozubulu by unknown gun men on Sunday.
Despite the allegations from Obiano and others that it was a drug war, Ikegwuonwu  said that linking him to the massacre is tantamount to defamation and false allegations as  he does not have a hand in the blood orgy over some over a drug problem.
He informed the general public that he know nothing about the church killings and have never been involved in drugs.
He also recounted that he has never been arrested or convicted anywhere in the world as his businesses are legitimate and duly registered.
To buttress his points, he listed his businesses to include warehousing and wholesale of goods, as well as a contractor involved in the construction of roads and  infrastructure in Nigeria.
He blamed Nigerians, especially the media for dishing out false information in his name, saying they should verify any story before running with them.
The Ozubulu chief, meanwhile, condemned the killing, saying it is an unprecedented evil that deserves full investigation to unmask the perpetrators.
He, in the meantime, requested all social media and media houses to retract his name from the defamatory stories, otherwise he will be forced to take legal action against the purveyors of the defamatory false story.
In a related development, the chairman of his Local Government, Ekwusigo, Mr Ofodeme has risen in his defence.
Ofodeme denied the alleged involvement of Ikegwuonwu in the mayhem stating that he is not even the target of the attack.
He said that he could not have been the target because he was not in the country when the incident happened.
“This young man, Aloysius Ikegwuonwu, they are calling based on the police report has built more than three churches in Ekwusigo communities.
“He is currently building a new one in one of the communities. He left this country two days ago.
“If he was the target and he did a business transaction that resulted to this killing, those who are pursuing him would have killed him at the football pitch.
“He played inter-village match a week ago before he left the country for his base. Some are quoting the governor of the state.
‘’The governor was briefed by the police and whatever he said, he should not be blamed because it was security agents that briefed him, and he must tell the people of the state what he was briefed on.
“The shooting happened in the church. Why didn’t the people go to his house or his father’s house? What business has shooting people in the church got to do with business transaction between alleged drug pushers?
‘’This is purely a terrorist attack and nothing to do with a drug pusher’s disagreement in South Africa with our son.”
The council chairman said the attack may be politically motivated to give the impression that there is no security in the state, just to rubbish Governor Obiano’s stride in addressing security in the state.
“If it were a misunderstanding between Mr Aloysius Ikegwuonwu and his kinsman in South Africa, what has that got to do with innocent worshipers in the church,” he asked.
“The state commissioner of police, Mr. Garba Umar, said, yesterday, that some arrests had been made, although he declined to say the number of people so far arrested.
“We don’t want to give figures now so as not to jeopardize the ongoing investigation,’’ the CP said in an interview,” he concluded.
