Obiano inaugurates special anti-piracy task force with Comrade Frank Uduonu as Chairman


www.odogwublog.com reports that as part of efforts to ameliorate the worrisome activities of pirates in the state, the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has inaugurated a special anti-piracy and counterfeit task force charged with the responsibility of arresting and prosecuting offenders.
The committee whose members were drawn from various intellectual and entertainment industry as well as government agencies including: the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN); Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON); National Agency for Food, Drug, Agency and Control (NAFDAC); Film, Video-Producers, Marketing Association of Nigeria and Consumer Protection Council has Comrade Frank Udeonu as its state chairman.
The committee is also expected to work with the Nigerian Police, Directorate of State Security Service, Nigerian Prisons Service and National Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and other Para-military agencies in this task.
Performing the swearing in ceremony at Awka, Anambra State, Governor Obiano, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Youth Mobilization, Hon. Tony-Uche Ezekwelu urged the committee to ensure that the activities of pirates in the state are reduced to the barest minimum.
Governor Obiano frowned at the increasing rate of piracy in the state, revealing that Anambra state is fast becoming the second in piracy activities after Lagos State.
“This government had achieved a great feet in the area of security but piracy activities is becoming worrisome.
“In terms of the activities of pirates, Nigeria rates 3rd in the world and Anambra State, outside Lagos, rates highest in the crime and that is why the state government decided to inaugurate this special committee to stem the tide of piracy in the state.
“Piracy, which is fast becoming a menace in Nigeria is the worst form of corruption. Imagine a situation where the original owners are left in perpetual poverty while the perpetuators smile to banks on daily basis, a situation that has made people stop writing and singing. 
“This government has zero tolerance for piracy and counterfeit and detests any form of crime; that is why our Governor, Chief Willie Obiano implored all forms of scientific strategy to nip crime and criminalities in the board, a trend that has made Anambra the safest state in Nigeria.
In his acceptance speech, the newly sworn in state piracy control chairman, Comrade Frank Uduonu expressed gratitude to the governor for considering him worthy to chair the committee and assured that he will not disappoint the state in carrying out the onerous task of riding the state off pirates.
Uduonu, however urged the pirates in the state to relocate to other states or face the dare consequences as his team will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone caught in such heinous act.
In his speech, the governor Performing Musician Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Mr. Ikem Mazeli described the move by the state government to fight the menace of intellectual theft, forgery, and piracy as laudable and capable of contributing to the wellbeing of her citizenry.
On his part, the chairman of Film, Video-Producers, Marketing Association of Nigeria, Mr. Igwemba Emeka, called on the people to support the committee to unmask those persons involved in mimicking the efforts of people, describing it as inhuman while the Zonal Coordinator, Consumer Protection Council, Mrs. Ngozika Obidike represented by Mr. Anthony Nwafor, assured that the council will collaborate with the task force towards fighting piracy in the state.
