Anambra Traders’ cup for 36 markets: Mercedes Parts Market Nkpor defeats Otuocha market

www.odogwublog.com reports that the second edition of Anambra state ‘traders cup’, 2017 a.k.a Governor Willie Obiano traders' cup which kicked off Friday 14th July at the Godwin Achebe stadium, Fegge-Onitsha has entered elimination stage with Mercedes Parts Market Nkpor scoring 4 goals against Otuocha market which scored 1 goal.
Impressed by the outcome, Commissioner for Youths Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Dr Uju Nwogu fter the zonal level matches in venues across the three senatorial districts of the state including FC Ifeanyi International Stadium, Ozubulu/Nnewi, Chuba Ikpeazu Mini Stadium, Onitsha, Rojenny International Stadium, Oba and Godwin Achebe mini Stadium, Fegge-Onitsha, the final fixtures will be drawn.
She said soonest the best teams in the 36 markets in the state would emerge and appealed to the traders in this 36 major markets in the state to return Obiano for a second term.
Nwogu, a lawyer commended Governor Obiano for remaining true to his promise to transform the state's Sports Sector, revealed that her Ministry has integrated observations from critical stakeholders gotten from the first edition towards ensuring a successful event.
She said First Edition ended in November 2016 and was a huge success even as she emphasized that the importance of sports and recreation cannot be over emphasized.
‘’This tournament was therefore set up to first , breed a sense of unity among our brothers trading in various markets and communities of Anambra state and across the country. It aims at helping us discover sporting talents especially among the young ones which can help elevate them to higher status in life. More importantly, this tournament helps to create an atmosphere of relaxation and recreation amongst our traders who ordinarily may not have time for such exercise on their own due to busy schedules’’.
Nwogu thanked Obiano for creating a separate football competition for traders who not be able to participate in conventional football competitions due to nature of their business, even as she commended Obiano for numerous projects executed in the markets.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development , Mr Linus Nwabueze who led other civil servants was appreciative of the turnout at the event and thanked Barr Nwogu for her commitment and dedication to duties.
Governor Obiano it would be recalled during the kick-off said the tournament is part of efforts by his administration to improve the health of traders and promote unity among them.

According to him, this year's edition is special as a lot of packages have been lined up for winners across various categories, even as he encouraged the traders to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship in the cause of the tournament, assuring them that his government will continue to pursue initiatives that will have positive implications for their welfare.
