Fathers Sunday: Obiano, Obaze, Onyeakagbusi task fathers ----as Obaze eulogize Church for keeping monuments

www.odogwublog.com reports that Anglican Communion all over Nigeria o Sunday celebrated its 2017 Fathers’ fellowship Sunday with a charge on fathers tow wake up to their responsibilities.

At the Church of the Holy Spirit Awka , Governor Willie Obiano, former Secretary to the Anambra state Government and frontline Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Mr Oseloka Obaze and the Vicar , Church of the Holy Spirit, Awka , Reverend Canon Jason O.Z Onyeakagbusi reminded fathers that as pillars in the home, their responsibility is always to speak and guide the other members of the family.

The immediate-past Secretary to Anambra State Government and a front line PDP governorship aspirant in the forthcoming governorship election in the state, Mr. Oseloka H. Obaze insisted that intensive teaching of history in schools and colleges is capable of averting a repeat of the ugly incidences of the civil war that broke out in 1967.

Obaze who worshipped at the Church encouraged the worshipers for retaining the historical monuments left by the founders of the church as it is a historical site.

He as well said:  “It’s important that we follow history. There is a portion of Nigerian History we don’t want to teach our young ones. Brutish as that portion is, we must allow our children to learn their history.

“If they don’t know, chances are that they will repeat past mistakes and I’m happy the Federal Government has reversed itself to allow for the inclusion of history in our school curriculum.”

In his sermon, Revd. Canon Jason Onyeakagbusi, called on all fathers to be historians and storytellers based on truth and virtues as a way of directing their children as obtainable in the days of old.

He said fathers have, in addition to other responsibilities, the responsibility of telling their children stories about their past. He said such helps to preserve history. He however enjoined the fathers to always set the narratives right, especially in this era of hate messages, while reminding them that they have responsibility to speak for the family.

Obaze frowned at the government and the society at large, for tending to forget people who made positive contributions once they are outside the lime light, an act he said “undermine history and record of pioneers and accomplished individuals."

Meanwhile, Mr. Oseloka H. Obaze has called on parents to engage more with their children.

In a statement personally signed by him to mark the 2017 Fathers’ Day, Obaze said, “Fathers bring colour to our world. But today is mostly a day of reflection and stock taking. As Fathers, we must get closer and engage more with our children in learning and in morals.”

Continuing, Obaze said “That 10.5 million children are out of school in Nigeria, the highest rate in the world, reflects our collective failure in parenting. The society must recommit to our declining values. It takes a village to raise a child, but the initial tasks is thrust upon us parents. Let us not fail in to do out part.” Obaze concluded.

Governor Obiano represented by the Special Adviser on Youths, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim asked the Church to articulate areas the Governor could assist as he is eager to ensure that his partnership with the Church continues and reminded that the Obiano administration is development minded.

Chairman of Fathers’ fellowship , Church of the Holy Spirit Awka , Sir Tochukwu Arubaleze commended the planning committee of 2017 fathers Sunday led by Hon Chukwuma Nwankwo for making it a hitch free event.
