www.odogwublog.com reports that there was confusion Tuesday morning when multiple 4 storey building numbering three collapsed at Okeani village, Oko community near Federal Polytechnic Oko, killing three labourers, allegedly trapping others.
The private buildings owned by an
Oko indigene based in Europe collapsed at about 2 am Monday night preceding a
heavy down pour on Monday afternoon by 4 pm that lasted for hours.
As at press time, the police from Ajali
, and Oko police stations led by the DPO mobilized officials in two Hilux vans
while officials of Anambra Town Planning and the Building materials Laboratory officials whose work was to test materials to
be used for the construction were handy on rescue mission while excavators were
at the site since 6 am to 12 Noon before another round of rains.
The contract from Umunnachi reported
the incident to the police and disappeared as he was still hunted for as at
press time.
An Eye witness , Ernest Nwosu from
Oko lamented the attitude of the police who prevented people from taking shots
of the scene and even arrested those who did until they deleted the photos they
took.
He was shocked at that attitude of
the police even as he reminded that building collapse has occurred in the
community for four times including a three storey
building by a private developer which collapsed about May 23 this year at Nwagu
village Oko near the permanent site of the Polytechnic and the Public
Administration building of the Polytechnic collapsed July 18th also this year as well as another before this collapse.
Efforts
to speak with the PPRO Nkiruka Nwode was not successful as her phones were not
connecting as at the time of going to the press even as a police source in the
office of the CP Sam Okuala confirmed the incident.
