SON Drags Manufacturer, Mr. Benjamin Nwaizu, MD Dand K Golden City Investment Limited to Court In Anambra

www.odogwublog.com reports that the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), Wednesday dragged one Mr. Benjamin Nwaizu, MD Dand K Golden City Investment Limited of the manufacturers in Onitsha, Anambra state, Km 3 Onitsha-Owerre Road Onitsha to court over alleged manufacturing of fake products.

When the matter came up at the Federal High Court yesterday in Awka, presided over by Justice I.B Gafai, the defendant was refused bail, but was remanded in prison custody till next week Tuesday.

Mr. Benjamin Nwaizu pleaded not guilty to the four count charges read against him by the court.

The presiding judge, I.B Gafai, adjourned the matter for Tuesday next week, but he told the counsels to the plaintiff (SON) and defendants to file all their motions on the charges to be taken on the day.

SON’s team of lawyers was represented by Emeka Etiaba (SAN), while Chike Onyali led the defendant’s team.

However, Etiaba left the matter to be handled by the Attorney General of the federation, represented by J.A Olofindare because the fiat applied for by the SON had not been signed.

The defendant was arrested on Sunday on his way to church by the Department of State Service (DSS) because he was alleged to have evaded service.

After hearing from both sides, the Presiding Judge asked that he be served to enable him look into the matter as their bail application would be meaningless if there were no charges read against him in his court.
Nwaizu was then served in the court room yesterday where he signed.

The charges against the defendant were as follows, “That you, Benjamin Ugochukwu Nwaizu 'M' being the Managing Director/CEO of I) & K Golden City Investment Limited as well as Bendusco International Agency Limited, D & K Golden City Investment Limited and Bendusco International Agency Limited on or about October, 2014 at kilometer 3, Onitsha Owerri Road, Onitsha, Anambra State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court being engaged in the manufacturing of Tooth Brush, Hair Brush, Shoe Brush, Plastic Hangers and packaging of Dorco disposable safety razors did sell or deliver the said products for consumption to the public without complying with the mandatory industrial standard cc/ by the Standard Organization of Nigeria and thereby communed an offence, 1 under Section 26(2)(6)(0 of lite Standard Original mallon of Nigeria Act. 200”

“That you Benjamin Ugochukwu Nwaizu 'M' being the Managing Director/CEO of D & K Golden City Investment Limited as well as Bendusco International Agency Limited. D & K Golden City Investment Limited and Bendusco International Agency Limited on or about the 3'd January, 2017 while at Kilometer 3, Onitsha Owerri Road. Onitsha, Anambra State Onitsha, Anambra State within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court willfully destroyed the official seal placed by the Standards Organization of Nigeria's officials ordering you to suspend the production. Storage and sale of products which are substandard and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 3(a) of Miscellaneous Offence Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (2004) CAP M” among others.
