PMAN celebrates Chief Morocco Maduka at 73

www.odogwublog.com reports that the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Ayamelum zone, weekend, celebrates an icon in traditional music industry, Chief Morocco Maduka (De king of traditional music) as he clocks 73.

The 73rd birthday celebration, held at his compound in Awka, Anambra state, attracted many dignitaries and personalities from all works of life, including the traditional ruler of  Umueje, Igwe Elias Neli, the traditional ruler of Omasi,  Igwe Benjamin Okeji and his Anaku counterpart,  Igwe Peter Offokansi  among others.

The celebration also attracted many artists and music icons who took turns to perform on stage as they celebrate one of their own.

Speaking to our reporter on what informed their decision of organising the 73rd birthday of  Chief Maduka, the chairman, PMAN, Ayamelum zone, Chief Nnonyelu Okolo explained that most of the traditional musicians  like Chief Ostar Stephen Osadebe and many others have gone to the world beyond.

He noted that the upcoming artists and musicians, especially from the south east zone needed an elder like Morocco Maduka as their mentor and hence their decision to celebrate him as the only surviving legend of their time.

According to Nonyelu 10-10 as he was fondly called; “A fatherless son is like a tyre less vehicle and a heedless fly perishes with corpse in the grave.

“We look up to Morocco as our role model and we are happy that he is one of the surviving and living legend in the traditional music industry while others have joined their ancestors.

“He is alive to celebrate his 73rd birthday and our prayer is that he will live up to 100 years and above. So, that we can have a father that will be advising us and that is why we gave him a chair as birthday gift so that he will live long for us.
We expect him to continue to play a fatherly role in PMAN by settling any issue that might arise among the upcoming and young artists.”
Responding, Chief  Morocco Maduka, who was visibly excited expressed happiness and gratitude to PMAN, Ayamelum zone and others who attended the event for celebrating him while alive.

He also informed that PMAN, Anambra state is also planning to celebrate his birthday in grand style, noting that the gesture is worthy of emulation.

“I have trained so many people in traditional music and they are doing wonderfully well. I personally orgainsed traditional music, gospel music and others under one umbrella as the former governor of PMAN in Anambra State.

“Initially, we tried to unite with people from the south west but some of them tried to play pranks on us and that was why we pulled out and organised ourselves here in the south east to be on the same pedestal.
