Ojoto gets New traditional ruler amidst tension and confusion

www.odogwublog.com reports that Ojoto community, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra state has selected a new traditional from Enugo Village, Obiafia in the person of Chief Dennis Adindu Okafor, the Chief executive officer (CEO) Densine Group .
The newly selected Igwe was presented by elders of Enugo village as was announced during a stakeholders meeting of Ojoto Akanasato Town Union.
 He was crowned by the Okpala of Ojo, the most senior Okpala(eldest son) alive.
It would be recalled that former traditional ruler of Ojoto, Igwe Augustine Obidigwe who hailed from Okpuno Ojoto died May 2016 and since then it had been a tug of war on who was to ascend the throne.
After much consultations the constitution has to take effect and the constitution stated that the Igweship shall be rotated between the two sections Okpuno and Obiofia Ojoto in order of seniority.
The Ojoto Akenasato Town Union wrote to Enugo village which was the eldest in Obiofia section to select a candidate and present to them. After much scrutiny, Enugo village communicated to Umuofor Kindred which adopted Chief Dennis Okafor to be the Igwe.
During the coronation the Okpala of Ojo village, Chief Godwin Efoagui explained that the selection of the new Igwe followed due process adding that the Igwe stool is not a political office but a sacred institution .
“Igwe’s stool in Ojoto is a sacred responsibility, it follows an orderly system, backed by our constitution. The quest by some persons to sideline our constitution and make the Igwe’s stool a contestable elective position instead of a traditional authority entrenched by our customs and traditions, is wrong,” said Efoagui .
Earlier in his address the President General of the town union, Engr. Dr Edwin Umeghalu while announcing the Igwe elect said that the new traditional ruler was not found wanting adding that he emerged through due process. He said that Igwe elect Dennis Okafor has been a known philanthropist who has improved lives of indegenes of the town and embarked on many developmental project in the community.
Similarly, one of the eldest men in the community and a former president general, Ichie Dan Ilonze said he was happy to be alive to witness the emergence of the Igwe elect, praying that the new Igwe would resolve all internal strife for the general interest of the whole community.
However, Igwe Dennis Adindu Okafor, thanked the people for choosing him as their new traditional leader, saying that his leadership will be all inclusive to bring peace and progress of the community.
“I thank you all for seeing me worthy to be your Igwe. My leadership will be all inclusive. Let everybody embrace love, peace and unity because development cannot be found in a community where there is bitterness, jealousy and rancour. Let’s join hands together for a progressive Ojoto,” Okafor said.
He further thanked, Governor Obiano of Anambra state for the role he played to see to the peaceful selection of the Igweship in Ojoto and ensure that the vacant stool was filled.
