www.odogwublog.com reports that the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank Plc, Nnamdi Okonkwo weekend said the bank has trained over One thousand , five hundred (1, 500) undergraduate students in three tertiary institutions on skills aimed at being independent and employ their own staff at graduation.

Okonkwo added that the programme was designed to educate the youths on skills that will make them become self reliance.

The Fidelity Bank MD who was represented by the bank’s General Manager in charge of Enugu, Anambra and Ebonyi, Sir Leonard Ezeugwu noted that the bank has disbursed over 2.2 billion naira on small and medium scale enterprises and will continue to monitor the progress of students trained under the programme in various institutions across Nigeria.

His words: “The bank will continue to assist the students in achieving their desired goals because we are overwhelmed by what these students produced within these five days. We will not train and abandon them but will come back in three months for performance monthly report (PMR).

“Remember that what we are doing is the bank’s way of contributing to creating entrepreneurs, reduce unemployment, eradicate extreme poverty and financial dependence of Nigerians”, he stated.

Odogwublog.com reports that Fidelity bank plc, in partnership with Gazzelle Business Limited has provided assorted machines and other equipment worth Millions of naira to Federal Polytechnic, Oko to boost the entrepreneurial departments of the institution.

The bank, under its youth empowerment Academy, last week, trained over 200 students of the institution on various skills acquisition.

The 5-day programme, which is third in the bank’s series, saw the 200 undergraduate students of the institution trained on Avante garde gele, fashion designing, bead making, cocktail making, mobile photography and fruit fountain.

Best among the students were also empowered with mini sewing machines, make up brush kits, pressing irons, and certificates of participation and other grants.


On her part, the founder, Gazzelle academy, Mrs Onuzo Muna expressed joy over positive attitude exhibited by the students during the training and enjoined them to make good use of the empowerment grants given to them.

She charged them to look out for a job that they will improve themselves on and make their families and nation proud.

Responding, the Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Prof. Godwin Onu, represented by the deputy Rector Academic, Mrs. Gladys Anene, thanked the Fidelity Bank and their partners, Gazzelle academy for finding the school worthy of the programme and promised to make judicious use of the items donated to the institution in training students and production of locally made items.

While the representative of the state commissioner for Youth entrepreneurship and sports development, Mrs Chitoo Osile urged other financial institutions to emulate Fidelity bank in that gesture.
