CD lauds Police Service Commission, AIG and CP , others reports that the Campaign for Democracy, CD has lauded the efforts of the Chairman of Police Service Commission, PSC, Sir Mike Okiro for running a most transparent leadership and for completing a successful first batch of recruitment of 10,000 police officers in the country, in line with the Federal Character Commission, FCC standard.

CD therefore called on President Muhammadu Buhari to make the recruitment exercise a routine one, adding that  5,000 more policemen should be recruited to measure up with the United Nations' standard of a police officer per 400 citizens, since Nigeria is currently facing security challenges.

In a press statement issued yesterday in Onitsha, Anambra state, the National Publicity Secretary of CD, Dede Uzor A. Uzor stated that they were happy with the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG in-charge of Zone 9, Umuahia, Hosea Karma for his high level of professionalism which he had so far exhibited in discharging his duties, which contributed in reducing crimes in the Southeast zone when the zone was under siege by some notorious criminal elements.

He mentioned some of such gangs as Osisi-Ka-Nkwu and his gang who operated from Aba, Abia state; Ofe Akwu and his own gang who operated from Anambra state, Nonso Mgbe Honshman and Chelsea and their own gangs who also operated from Aba, among others.

"We also commend the Commissioner of Police, CP, Anambra state, Sam Okaula; the Officer in-charge of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS at Awkuzu, Superintendent Sunday Okpe; the award-winning (2015/2016) Divisional Police Officer, DPO at Fegge, Onitsha, Superintendent Rabiu Garba who won the best crime fighter of the years from SABMiller and Company Limited, producers of Hero lager beer and other drinks, as well as the Divisional Police Officer, DPO at Ogidi, Mark Ijarafi (CSP) for reducing crime to the barest minimum in the state.

CD however condemned what it termed as the most recent lopsided recruitment of new personnel for the Department of State Services, DSS during which Katsina state was allocated the highest number of 51 personnel, while densely populated states like Lagos, Imo, Anambra and Rivers got small numbers.

He therefore demanded immediate reversal of the trend total overhauling of DSS to correct the imbalance and inject more blood into its system.
