Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state set to commission 10 new roads before May 29

www.odogwublog.com reports that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has hinted that 10 new roads would be commissioned in the state before May 29 to mark his second year in office.

Ikpeazu who made the disclosure at a press conference in Umuahia, said his administration was active on 64 roads across the state with emphasis on Aba and its surroundings.

He said 18 of the roads had so far been commissioned, explaining that his administration places high premium on road infrastructure as " an enabler" to the five-development pillars of his government.

The Governor further explained that he decided to give priority to road development in Aba because, as the treasure base of the state, " if  we get it right in Aba we've got it right in Abia".

Ikpeazu who said his spirited effort to rebuild road infrastructure in the state particularly in Aba was to boost economic and commercial activities , however hinted that attention would be shifted to school infrastructure as the rains set in.

He announced that plans had been concluded by his administration to establish three model schools - one in each of the three senatorial zones in the state , adding that both students and staff of such schools will live within the premises to ensure proper learning.

The schools , he added would be adequately furnished and serve as models in the country.

He also said at least 300 schools would be rehabilitated across the state, adding that any community without a school in the state would get one under the project.

The Governor said the state's heavy investment in the education sector had been very rewarding as the state has consistently maintained the first position in National Examination Council ( NECO) exam , and West African Examination Council ( WASC) exam.

On the worsening sanitary situation in Umuahia the state capital, Ikpeazu said his wholistic waste management plan for the state would be rolled out in 30 days time.

He said that under the arrangement, one receptacle truck would be deployed to each of the 17 local government areas in the state  for waste evacuation.

Ikpeazu said waste management agency would be launched simultaneously in all the council areas in the state during the period, adding  that house -to-house collection of refuse will commence in Umuahia metropolis within the period.
