Umueje Bridge To Be Completed, June

The State Government is to complete the ongoing Umueje Bridge leading to the Enugwu-Otu Oil Rig by June this year.

Governor Willie Obiano disclosed this when he inspected ongoing construction work on the bridge yesterday.

The 5 span bridge of 100 meters connects Umueje Community in Ayamelum Council Area with Enugwu-Otu Community in Anambra East Council Area where there are three Oil fields and one Gas field.

During the inspection exercise, it was observed that work on the bridge has reached eighty percent completion with cross beams to be used already cast.

Speaking after he inspected the project, Governor Obiano who noted that before his administration came on board, there was no access to the oilfields, said the 13 kilometer road on which the bridge situates is strategic because of the prospects it holds for Agricultural development and Oil exploration in the area.
Commending the quality and extent of work already achieved on the bridge, Governor Obiano assured that his government will provide the funds to ensure that the project is completed on schedule.

He harped on the need for people of Ayamelum and the entire Anambra North Senatorial District to continue to support his administration to sustain its developmental strides in the area, adding that although the State's resources has dwindled due to the downturn in oil fortunes, the State under his watch will continue to soar in economic prosperity.

The Project Manager of the Contracting firm handling the project, Mr Chami Ali promised that with the support of the government, they will deliver the Project according to specifications.

In their separate remarks, a former Chairman of Ayamelum Council Area, Sir Tony Ifeanya and the immediate Past Chairman of the Council Area, Chief Paul Obiorah said the pace with which the project is progressing goes to re-enforce Governor Obiano's commitment to opening up the highly endowed area and enhancing its economic and agric potentials, assuring him that the area has resolved to give him overwhelming solidarity and support especially with the upcoming Guber election later this year.

The governor was received by elders, women and children of the area with solidarity chants and dances.
