Ukpor Youth Organization disowns Ukpor Youth Movement

Our attention has been drawn to a certain publication circulating in the social media and some mainstream media titled “Speaker Anambra House goes tough against Obiano” with a subtitle “OPEN LETTER TO GOVERNOR WILLIE OBIANO OF ANAMBRA STATE, IS UKPOR NOT PART OF ANAMBRA STATE” purporting to originate from a body addressing itself as UKPOR YOUTH MOVEMENT.

Let us state from the onset that there is no body or persons or association recognized by the Ukpor Improvement Union (UIU). (The Town Union Government of Ukpor) known as or addressed as Ukpor Youth Movement.

Every developmental organization, social club or otherwise in Ukpor is required to register with the UIU.

There is ONLY  one umbrella organization holding the entire Ukpor Youths together and is imbued with authority to speak for and on behalf of Ukpor Youths; this body is known as Ukpor Youth Organization(UYO) and is set up under the town union government (UIU).

The Ukpor Youth Organization is currentlyled by Mr. Nkwado Onwughalu as Chairman and Apostle Chuks Ezemazi as Secretary.

The Ukpor Youth Organization totally condemns the publication mentioned above as it does not convey the feelings and disposition of Ukpor Youths towards the Government and Governor of Anambra State.

It is not the habit of Ukpor Youths to threaten and be confrontational to constituted authority. Ukpor Youths are known to be respectful and courteous; hence the embarrassment the ill-advised publication caused the entire Ukpor Community.

Ukpor Youth Organization is nonpolitical and nonpartisan and engages with all stakeholders in a constructive and result oriented manner always preferring dialogue and negotiation to undue confrontation that does not yield positive results.

The signatory is a registered member of Ukpor Youth Organization and fully participated in our recent election that produced the newly elected leaders ,under the leadership of Nkwado Onwughalu and Apostle Chuks Ezemazi as Chairman & Secretary respectively .

Without minding the messenger and addressing the message, we, Ukpor Youth Organization can boldly say that it is totally not true that Ukpor has nothing to show or to be happy about under the government of His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano.

The entire peace and security in Anambra State is a dividend enjoyed by every community and everyone in Anambra State. Because of the safety of lives and property private sector investment has grown in Ukpor, more sons and daughters of Ukpor have come home to invest in businesses thereby creating employment in Ukpor and growing the economy of Ukpor but the writers of the said letter are probably too ignorant to realize the multiplier effect of security so as to count it for gain.

The government of Anambra State led by Chief Willie Obiano came up with a Community development model that is being copied across the land when it gave ₦20m to every community in Anambra to inject into projects of choice in each community – Ukpor elected to build market stalls to boost commerce and that project is there for all to see, the government we are aware is set to release additional ₦20mthis March and Ukpor again will benefit.

It is very pedestrian and a cheap tale to say this government has done no single road in Ukpor since it came to power; to address the issue of roads; if this writer had bothered to attend meetings of the Ukpor Youth Organization or indeed Ukpor Improvement Union he would have been better served as he would have real information on the activities of government.

The Afor-Ukpor – Umunuko – Amihe –Afor Ilo Ozubulu road that the writer so hysterically talked about is by no means abandoned. Work was done on that road in December 2016 and is continuing, a trip to the Afor-Ilo Ozubulu end of that stretch will convince anyone in this regard, as the contractors are working from that end towards Ukpor. We are aware from our constructive engagement with relevant stakeholders in government and outside that there was even a recent release of funds for the project.

It is important to stress that the said road is one of the longest stretches of road awarded in any one community in Anambra and that the Governor has stated time without number his resolve to see that road completed. Everyone is aware of the economic situation in the country, the depleting resource allocation to states and the competing needs of communities in the state about 179 towns in all. We thereforeurge patience and understanding as there is no resource anywhere to build all the roads in Anambra State at the same time.

This road in question was attracted through the hard work of our representative in the Anambra State House of Assembly and who incidentally is today the Speaker of the House, Does this misguided writer feel thatthe completion of this road project is more important to him than to the Honourable Speaker whose baby it is? The misguided writer has unimpeded access to the Speaker and one then wonders if he had ever bothered to find out the true position about the road.

We are aware that the designs of two very vital and crucial roads that link Ukpor to neighboring communities have been completed and the roads captured in the state budget. This is a vital and major step towards any road project and what it requires in the face of completing interests state wide against the meager resources of the state is to show solidarity and support to the government of the day, constructively engaging and lobbying all that matter like other people do.

Intransigence will never bring development to an area;issuing empty threats to the Governor (The Chief Security Officer) of the state not to come to Ukpor can only yield negative results. The writer is by no means an opinion molder of any sort in Ukpor and at best can only be rated on his mischief value.

We are gratified that the Governor of Anambra State knows the position of Ndi Ukpor, the leadership, the town union, the stakeholders; this outburst by this writer in the social media cannot dent the very good relationship the Governor His Excellency Dr. Willie Obiano enjoys with the generality of Ukpor people.

Let it be known that in Ukpor contrary to the wild assertion of this writer, the Honourable Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly is NOT and hasNEVER been held in contempt.

The entire Ukpor community is aware of her stellar efforts as a legislator and herproactive approach to affairs of her people. It is on record that she has tangible achievements in all the 4 towns that she represents and the entire constituency has nothing but love for her. From our consultations we know about the efforts of the Rt. Honourable Speaker in attracting roads, in empowering her constituents, in sourcing jobs for her constituents (human capital development) we are also aware that she has through her dexterity ensured that work on the General Hospital rehabilitation will commence with the first phase in Anambra State as soon as the funds are available.

We want to educate this writer that asking a Governor to flag off a road means absolutely nothing. Of what use is it to flag off a road without the matching funds for the completion. This is not prudence, it is not sound financial management and thus this Governor the much we know about him will not indulge in practices that tend to play to the gallery.

We are also aware that this writer hangs around the campaign organization of a certain member of the House of Representatives who incidentally is an aspirant to the Governorship seat under the platform of the APC, while we are not saying that the said aspirant sanctioned this bizarre outburst for we know that this aspirant if he so desired would get a more competent, coherent and articulate person to do so. This writer as is his practice uses this time worn tactic to attract attention to himself and to of course get the pecuniary benefits attached. We are not averse to anyone making a living, what we are saying vehemently is that absolutely NO ONE will use the platform of Ukpor or Ukpor Youths to threaten anyone no less the Governor of this state. No one MUST denigrate the office of the Governor hiding under the banner of Ukpor Youths.

We recognize and appreciate the right of everyone to belong to a party of his choice and to free speech but we oppose any form of threat or incitement to violence. We resist this as a body.

It is no gain saying that since the said publication about 90% of the claimed signatories to the piece have come out to denounce it and say they never signed nor attended any meeting where such resolution was made, it is obvious that the so called Ukpor Youth Movement is a briefcase creation of one man for himself and his hatchet jobs; for where is it that a Youth Organization of an entire town is convened by one man who calls himself The Convener?

We are taking adequate steps to address all the issues regarding these acts of impersonation, fraud and forgery associated with this publication.

May we call on all to disregard the unfortunate outburst as it does not represent the position of Ukpor Youth Organization (the recognized Umbrella body of ALL Ukpor Youth) and definitely does not reflect the position of Ukpor as a town.

We reaffirm our commitment to interfacing with the government of the day in attracting meaningful development and progress to our dear community Ukpor.
