Tony Nwoye sponsors bill for 3 oil producing states of Anambra, Kogi and Enugu

www.odogwublog.com reports that Member Representing Anambra East and West in the National Assembly, Dr Tony Nwoye has sponsored a Bill to recognize Anambra, Kogi and Enugu states as oil producing states.

The bill which was co-sponsored by Hon Emmanuel Egwu and Hon Patrick Asadu said that would not jeopardize the ongoing field tracing and provisional boundary demarcations between the states.

The Bill sponsored on Thursday 9th of March on the floor of the green chamber, Federal House of Representatives was ‘’to declare Kogi, Enugu and Anambra states among the oil producing states in the federation was sponsored by Hon Tony Nwoye, Hon Emmanuel Egwu and Hon Patrick Asadu.

‘’The honourable members believes that the declaration of Kogi, Enugu and Anambra states as oil producing states will not in anyway jeopardize the on going field tracing and provisional boundary demarcation between the states by the national boundary commission but will rather aid in determining the percentage of derivation accruable to the three states.

The honourable members urged the house to resolve the following: ‘’Urged the federal government to direct the ministry of petroleum resources, the department of petroleum resources (DPR) and NNPC to open up round table bids for oil prospecting and mining on the existing discovery.

‘’Urged the federal government to declare Kogi, Anambra and Enugu states as oil producing states since exploration/mining activities have begun in the Basin since 2012.

‘’Set up Ad hoc committee to determine the commercial viability of the oil and gas deposits in the Anambra Basin in order to optimize the commercial mining in the Basin where Hydrocarbon activities have been going on since 2012.

Nwoye told The Authority that ‘’The motion was adopted and sent to the appropriate committee for further legislative processing’’.
