Anambra IPAC denies meeting Obiano, says jobbers conned gov of N3m

The leadership of Anambra State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), has dissociated itself from the recent meeting with Governor Willie Obiano and some chairman of political parties in the state, stressing that the governor has not responded to demands by the committee to meet with him.

In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Engineer Sam Osita Oraegbunam, yesterday, IPAC Anambra State regretted that some disgruntled elements and political jobbers were taking advantage of the governor’s desperation for a second term to extort from him.

IPAC said it decided to make the clarifications following phone calls and enquiries of well meaning people of Anambra state, asking why the chairmen decided to collect N3m from the governor when the government was yet to conduct local council election in the state.

The statement added that IPAc was mindful of the socio-political challenges facing Nigerians, pointing out that Governor Obiano rejected to meet with IPAC to receive constructive suggestions on how to move the state forward.

Part of the statement read: “The Anambra State chapter of IPAC wishes to state categorically that it was not part of the recent meeting between Governor Willie Obiano and some chairmen of political parties in Anambra.

“It is on record that IPAC made concerted efforts to meet with Governor Obiano but the governor appears not to be disposed to meeting with IPAC to rub minds on some nagging socio-economic issues in the state.

“We have been inundated with phone call and enquiries about a meeting the governor held with some chairmen of political parties in the state where he handed the sum of N3m to them. Upon investigation, we discovered that among the impostors that me with the governor were some bonafide chairmen of political parties.

“It was discovered that out of the N3m given to the chairmen, the facilitators or organizers of the meeting took N2m and gave N1m to the party chairmen, who were about seven out of the 15 persons presented as party chairmen.”

IPAC stressed that while it was not the business of the Inter-party body to dictate to Governor Obiano how to run his administration, it believes that the monetary handout to the politicians was ostensibly to induce the parties to endorse his second term ambition.

It added that for the avoidance of doubt some of the political parties  represented at the meeting included SDP, KOWA, APP, APPA and PDC, remarking that the group was led by the chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state.
