25 passengers die in two Imo auto crash

www.odogwublog.com reports that at least 25 people on Monday lost their lives on the busy Owerri - Onitsha expressway in Imo State when two trucks collided with two hummer buses.
The unfortunate incident occurred at Catering school Junction and Okpokija Junction, both in Irete community in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state at about 4: 20 pm.
A source popularly called MC T-Boy, who hails from the community said that a commercial hummer bus filled with passengers from Onitsha heading to Owerri  was crushed by the incoming heavy duty truck conveying empty containers when it tried to overtake the truck on the expressway .
He disclosed that the eighteen passengers on board, including the driver and conductor all died on the spot as the truck crushed the bus beyond repair.
According to him, while they were still grappling with the accident, another one occurred within twenty minutes, and killed five persons on the spot, and left several others  severely injured.
MC T-Boy said the second crash which occurred at the Okpokija petroleum refilling station Junction on the same expressway involved another big truck coming from Onitsha to Owerri with another hummer bus said to be conveying passengers from Lagos to Owerri which belonged to the Peace Mass Transit.
He explained that the second auto accident happened due to the impatience of the bus driver who chose to take a one way drive instead of sticking to his own Lane.
According to him, "when the first crash occurred, there was heavily traffic jam. All motorists were held in the traffic gridlocks as people rushed to rescue the accident victims. But instead of the bus driver to exercise patience by waiting, he quickly took to a one way drive without looking. His bus was immediately crushed by an incoming truck leading to five persons dying on the spot ", MC T-Boy said.
He said that it took the efforts of the indigenes of the community to rescue the few survivors by rushing them to the nearby hospitals for treatments.
The Authority Daily reports that the buses and the heavy duty trucks have been evaluated from the expressway, paving way for free flow of traffic.

It was a horrific incident at Onitsha/Owerri road on Monday as 13 passengers on board an 18 seater bus belonging to Peace mass transit bus was feared dead in a ghastly auto accident.

According to an eye witness account the two separate incident which occured at about 6 pm precisely at Irete and Orogwe along Onitsha/Orogwe road saw two lorry getting involved in the accident.

At Orogwe, according to the witness,the bus belonging to Peace mass transit was returning from the Onitsa axis and rammed into the trailer which was making a u turn.

The impact of the collision was so intense according to the witness that almost all the passengers on board were feared dead.

Another incident which ocurred just few metres from the first scene at Orogwe narrated another witness saw another lorry hitting two commercial motorcyclist who wer said to be on one way of the road. The cyclist and their ocupants were said to have also died on the spot.

When contacted, the state commandant of the Federal Road Safety Commission(FRSC) Ibrahim Abubakar said he does not have much information about the incident however added that the police actually did the rescue mission.
