Tension in Abia community over large movement of herdsmen

www.odogwublog.com reports that palpable fear and frenzy have griped the  people of Obasiukwu  autonomous community in Uzuakoli, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State following the alleged heavy presence  of Fulani herdsmen in the agrarian community.

According to a member of the community, Mr. Emmy Nwangoro who alerted  us in Umuahia yesterday on telephone, herdsmen have been roaming around the community and its vicinity for some days now.

The community had come under unprovoked attack by herdsmen late November 2016 which left scores of villagers wounded in its wake.

One  of those  who sustained deep machete cuts during the last invasion is still recuperating at the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia.

Our source said that the mission of the herdsmen was not yet clear but expressed fears  that they might be up to something sinister.

" We are now living in fear because of the large number of these Fulanis who are now wandering around our villages and farmlands. We suspect that they are planning to attack us again.

" Government should please come to our aid and save innocent lives from being lost to these merciless herdsmen. How can we become strangers in our own land. Is this what they have turned Nigeria to be".

Efforts to contact the police for their reaction did not yield any fruits as the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Ogbonna Nta did not pick calls put across to his cell phone even though they rang out.
