Igbo-Jewish relation: groups rule out manipulation
The Redeemed Israel Community of Nazarenes Association,
RICON , in conjunction with the Jewish Voice Ministries International, JVMI,
the bodies that is conducting the Deoxyribonuleic Acid, DNA, text to know the
relationship between the Igbos and
Jewish yesterday assured that the result of the test will not be manipulated
and expected in August.
The groups during a briefing in Nnewi, on behalf of RICON Committee on
DNA Test, President of RICON, Bishop Ignatius Orizu, who was surrounded by his
Secretary Moreh Abraham Ndukwe, DNA Committee Chairman, Elder Ben Ikeyeh and
Yahi, RICON Financial Secretary and DNA Committee Secretary win Gozie Aguh,
said specimens of males were randomly selected from nine South East and South
South states where the Igbos are found.
He said “RICON, the
sole facilitator of the programme and investigation randomly picked people from
the states like, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Delta, Gross Rivers, Akwa
Ibom and Rivers States, and they willingly submitted their saliva swap samples
for the DNA test to the medical team of JVMI.
So far the test has commenced and the Global Director of
JVMI Ezra Watnik expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and successful
collecting of the saliva swap samples, and described the event as historic for
the Igbo community.”
He said the journey
to ascertain the speculation and mythological belief that the Igbos have relationship
with the Jewish started in 2007 shortly after founding RICON, whose vision was
the unification and championing of the cause of Messianic Jews of Nigeria.
Bishop Orizu noted that they came in contact with deceased Igbo
Rabbi, Dr Melekh Ukahson,in 2010 through whom we got to know a Canadian Rabbi, Yehudah
Ben Shomer through whom we knew JVMI, and in 2014, they sent a two man
delegation, Ezra Watnik and Mezmur Zemichael to Nigeria
