Breaking News: Robbers invade Owerri Zenith bank, kill one, injure many

Dare devil gunmen on Wednesday in Owerri, the Imo State capital invaded a commercial bank, Zenith Bank, and carted away millions of Naira, leaving one person dead.
Eye witnesses told www.odogwublog.com  that the armed men invaded the bank some minutes past 3pm, shooting indiscriminately into the air to scare people away.
While pleading anonymity, customers said the armed robbers appeared to have traced a high worth customer into the bank but met with stiff resistance from the Policemen attached there.
According to them, there was a gun duel between the armed robbers and policemen on duty, and resulted in severe injuries on other customers.
During the operation that lasted about thirty minutes, one policeman was shot in his legs while one armed robber was gunned down, and several others badly injured.
It was gathered that the robber that was shot dead while he was busy shooting, and failed to make an escape alongside his colleagues.
Varying degrees of blood stains littered the bank premises and in front of the entrance leading to the banking hall, though the bank  shutdown before the normal 4pm closing time.
It was gathered that the armed bandits were able to dispossess their target from their target.
Meanwhile, the injured bank customers have been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment, though one of them was said to have been critically injured by the men of the underworld.
When www.odogwublog.com visited the crime scene which has now been cordoned off, there was heavy presence of Policemen with an armoured tank stationed in front of the bank, with people  clustering in groups, discussing the robbery operation.
Reacting, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Enwerem, said the command was aware of the incident and had dispatched men to restore calm just as he confirmed that one police officer was shot during the incident, while some of the armed robbers were killed.
This is the second time that Zenith bank branch will be invaded by armed men. It was robbed in 2009 for hours when armed men held the bank hostage for hours.
