www.odogwublog.com reports that Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abia State, Chief Joshua Ogbonnaya, has hinted that machinery had been put in motion  to ensure Abians are fed with rice grown in the state this year.

The Commissioner who disclosed this in an exclusive interview with www.odogwublog.com yesterday in Umuahia, said   Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu had already given a marching order to council Chairmen in the state whose land is good for growing  rice  to ensure the the target is actualised.

He said that the state government had rolled out plans to assist the affected councils.

" Last year we ate Ebonyi  rice, but this year we will eat Abia rice", he said, adding that government will do everything to ensure the success of the policy.

He also said arrangements had been perfected to ensure every council produces crops that it has comparative advantage, explaining that a private firm is already partnering with Umunneochi LGA for cashew plantation in the area.
