arrested fifteen (15) persons for allegedly stealing and vandalizing street
light cable installed by Ebonyi state government.
The state NSCDC Commandant Mrs. Chinwe Kannu disclosed this
yesterday, noted that four among the fifteen suspects were still
facing trial in court while one person is serving his sentence in
Abakaliki prisons.
“The command under five months I assumed office as commandant of the
state has arrested fifteen persons for stealing and vandalizing the
street light cable installed by the state government”, she stressed.
Mrs. Kannu said the careless attitude among electricity
apparatus dealers to rightly register with the state as directed by
the government was encouraging crime by youths in
the state.
She however, added that bad companion among youths also contribute to
the rising cases of stealing and vandalism of the street cables in the
state.
“The cause of this stealing and vandalizing of street light cable
common among youths is cause by bad companies and the inability of
those selling electricity apparatus in the state to corporate with
state government.
“And until date, those selling electricity cable in the state have
been directed to register with the state but it is unfortunate that
none of them have come to do that despite the fact that the
registration is free”, she stressed.
She added that the command also sealed three mining illegal sites
situated in Ikwo, Ezza North and Enigba in Izzi local government areas
of the state.
“The command which has the mandate also to check illegal mining has
equally sealed three major mining sites in three local government of
the state; Ikwo, Ezza North and Enigba in Izzi,” she said.
While calling on the youths in the state to shun crime and be law
abiding, added that the command is prosecuting a young boy for
stealing 85litres of gas used in powering plant for the street light.
