Lagos to get new stadia, sports recreational centres

In a bid to continue to ignite sporting activities across the state, the Lagos state government has started the construction of five stadia and 50 sports recreational centers across the state, says the Director General of the sports commission, Adewunmi Gbolahan Ogunsanya.

Ogunsanya said that the state has started building a high-performance center in Epe to place it in good stead to produce athletes, who can stand against any opposition in their events. According to the D-G, the five stadia will be located at Badagry, Ikorodu, Alimosho and Maracana[Ajegunle] adding that the recreational centers would be of Campos Square model.

We are building a sports center at the Lagos state University[LASU], to carter for athletes in Ojo and Badagry, who have been complaining that Rowe park and Teslim Balogun stadium are too far from them. We have started building a database of every athlete that has featured in any event in Lagos state, and with their performance because we believe that with such database we can monitor them and know those we can work on to attain international standard.

The director said that the sports centers and stadia would have standard tartan tracks, football fields and indoor halls.
