Imo Police command begins mop up of arms

Following suspicions over proliferation of firearms, the Commissioner of Police Imo State command, Mr Chris Ezike has directed that defaulters submit them or risk arrest.

The directive was issued in a release signed by Mr Tunji Akingbola, the command's Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration). 

The Police boss ordered the immediate disarmament and recovery of prohibited Fire Arms, ammunition and weapons in the possession of all suspected militias, bandits, vigilante groups, neighborhood watch.

Others are groups, individuals or bodies bearing prohibited firearms, ammunition, illegal weapons and lethal devices whether locally fabricated, modified or otherwise, fashioned to kill; saying they should submit them immediately. 

The weapons include: artillery; Apparatus for the discharge of any explosives of gas diffusing projectiles; Rocket weapons;     bombs and grenades;       AK-47;    LAR;       K2 ;        FNC ;   Trevour ;  Type 0.6 Assault; Pump Action Automatic rifles; General Multi Purpose and Lower Multi Purpose Machine Guns;   Pistols such as Jericho; arreta;  Brany; Markorovo; karan and Revolvers.

Already, a Police Joint Task Enforcement Team on recovery of arms and ammunition has been set up at the Department of Operations, Imo State Police Headquarters, Shell Camp, Owerri to clamp down on defaulters.

The Police Commissioner stated that any person or group found to still be in possession of any or all prohibited Fire Arms within three (3) weeks will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
