IFAD Team wined and dined on expense of Umueri Cassava farmers

www.odogwublog.com reports that Cassava farmers at Umueri, Anambra East Council Area, cooked so much food and presented assorted drinks for the Federal government IFAD Value Chain Development Programme.
They ate and were satisfied and would be happy to come again.
This was during the Midterm Review Team in appreciation of their intervention on the fifty five hectares of cassava farm.
The occasion held at the palace of the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Benneth Emeka, a member of one of the cooperative societies.
The fifty-five hectares of farm land has a three-point-seven kilometre feeder road constructed by IFAD for easy access to the farm.
Addressing the farmers, the IFAD team leader, Professor Lemchi, who stated that they were at the farm to ascertain the level of implementation of the IFAD VCDP by the members of the cooperative societies, expressed satisfaction at the rate farmers in Umueri are growing, advising them to keep the tempo while thanking the traditional ruler of Umueri for his strong support to the farmers.
Welcoming the Federal Government IFAD VCDP team to Umueri, the traditional ruler, Igwe Benneth Emeka, who noted that IFAD in collabrotion with the state government has contributed so much to the development and growth of agriculture in the community, said that they have a ten year farming arrangements with IFAD VCDP and that the farmers have cultivated for only two years with remarkable results. .
He thanked IFAD and the state government for their support, advising the farmers to take ownership of the feeder road, while urging all to embrace agriculture.

Contributing, the Transition Committee Chairman, Anambra East, Mr. Pius Ifeadi and the President-General, Umueri General Assembly, Chief Pius Okonkwo, noted that the presence of IFAD and the state government in agriculture in the area is the beginning of good things to come in Umueri and thanked the traditional ruler for having the interest of the people of the community at heart.
In their seperate remarks, the chairperson, Eziafakaego Cooperative Society, Mrs. Elizabeth Onuora and chairman Oganiru Cooperative Society, Umueri thanked IFAD and state government for training them on mechanized farming, which, they said, has resulted in bountiful harvest and promised to put in more efforts.
Earlier in a joint address presented by Mr. Peter Iwuno, members of the Co-operative Societies thanked Governor Willie Obiano for his contributions to the development of the program in the state, which he noted has helped in training them on good agronomic practices as well as seed and cassava stem multiplication, among others.
