'Anyanwu Ututu' Igbo movie gets commendation from 177 traditional rulers



www.odogwublog.com reports that an Igbo movie ‘Anyanwu Ututu ‘ has received endorsement from 177 traditional rulers in Anambra state.
  Anambra State Traditional Rulers and Stakeholders of Igbo extraction have been urged to champion the promotion and advancement of Igbo language and culture, as obtainable in other Tribes.
The plea was given when a group of Film Makers made the official presentation of the Movie Premiere “Anyanwu Ututu,” to the Anambra State Council Of Traditional Rulers, at the Government House, Awka.
Making the presentation, the Anchor and Nollywood Actress Chioma Okoye, pointed out that other tribes are proud of their root and promote anything that relates to it, stressing that film making has socio-cultural and economic importance in showcasing cultural and traditional heritage .
 Miss Okoye who stressed that about eighty five percent of Nollywood movies are acted by Ndi Igbo, lamented that one of the challenges faced by producers of Igbo movies is negligence, and called on Ndi Igbo living outside their states who are forty years and above, to adopt the think home philosophy and bring part of their resources’ to develop their home states.

Chief Osita Okeke from Nawfia, Njikoka Council Area and popularly known as Ossy Afason canvassed for support and encouragement from the government and individuals to help nurse budding talents, and keep the Igbo spirit alive, as is obtainable in other tribes.

Also speaking, Mrs Lizzy Uwaezuoke of the National Film and Video Censors Board , stressed that from the data available to them, numerous movies are done in other languages but not much in Igbo language, which she said is pathetic, pointing out that if more movies are produced in Igbo language, the Igbo culture will definitely receive a boost.

Responding, the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alfred Achebe who is also the Traditional Ruler of Onitsha, commended the initiative which he said if sustained will go a long way to encourage the Igbo populace to appreciate and use their language as well as adopt their Customs and Traditions.

Igwe Achebe called on Ndi Igbo, especially parents, guardians and teachers to inculcate the Igbo spirit in their wards as a means of saving the language and Culture from going into extinction.

The event which featured presentation of an art work bearing movie name was attended by a number of Igbo movie makers.
