Anambra students get haircut punishment, HIV/AIDS Scare

Students of Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi Anambra State have allegedly been given a punishment they would never forget in a hurry by their teachers.
Sources from the school alleged that over fifty students in both junior and senior classes were given razorblade haircut for keeping bushy hair, using the same razors to barb as many students as the sharp objects could carry and cutting their skins and blood gushing as it was meant to punish them, according to the source.
The exercise which was said to have lasted over one hour was allegedly supervised by the Vice Principal of the school who made sure that students that refused to barb their hair or failed to do so according to the standard of the school were forcefully subjected to the barbing punishment.
Our source said the affected students were later sent home to come back the next day with the sum of N200 each as payment for having the haircut at school.
When contacted, the Principal of the school, Mrs Okonkwo Ifeoma confirmed the incident, though she said she was not at school when the action took place.
She said the number of students whose skins were cut was only three and not fifty. She claimed that parents of the affected students had been assured that their children would after three months be taken to laboratory tests by the school management to see if they contracted any disease as a result of the blood contact. She told this reporter that the N200 barbing fee was not realistic, that it was pronounced out of anger.
Meanwhile, some parents and guardians whose children and wards are at the school who pleaded for anonymity condemned the act, describing it as barbaric. They said that with the existence of such deadly diseases as HIV/AIDS, Lassa Fever and other contagious diseases, the school managements should not have contemplated such punishment.
