Nibo community sends SOS to Governor Obiano over collapsed Bridge

www.odogwublog.com reports that Umuizogu village, Ifite-Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area, is now cut-off from the rest of the community as the only bridge that connects them to the nearest village, Umuamam, was destroyed by flood last rainy season.
Rainy and farming season quickly draws closer, but the hope of the Umuizogu villagers’ to exploit agriculture, the main stay of their economy, may have been greatly hampered.
The prefabricated bridge built during the Nigerian civil war by the military with hardwood and steel serving as rails, bore the burdens of motorcyclists, trucks and other heavy duty vehicles which conveyed agricultural produce from the area, now could only carry pedestrians, who also walk in fear of the unknown.
Residents of the community recounted the several mishaps encountered by school children, market women and farmers on the bridge on daily basis.
On his part, a community youth leader, Mr. Prince Onyekwelu called on the State Government to come to their aid as soon as possible to avert the looming challenges being faced by the community.
According to the chairman of Umuizogu Village, Ichie George Nwolisa, the village had engaged in self-help efforts to raise funds to rebuild the bridge without positive results.
The villagers fear that if nothing is done to address this challenge they will be on the verge of isolation from their brothers in the rest of the Nibo community and may also face food shortage.
