UNICEF boreholes in Anambra for Healthy Environment parks up, pupils in danger



www.odogwublog.com reports that some of the UNICEF Water Supply and Sanitation Hygiene WASH boreholes particularly Tippy Taps facilities across Anambra state have parked up.
The tippy taps were provided by UNICEF to assist communities promote, maintain good and healthy environment.
   The tippy tap borehole at Community Primary School Nsugbe, Anambra East has been vandalized and pupils were denied access to their tippy tap as they are facing challenges with water supply.
The same apply to some other communities but that of Premier Primary School Aguleri was functional and  the students were seen using the tippy tap which they said have been their daily routine.
Other areas visited were Premier Primary School Aguleri, Primary Health Care Centre Otuocha, Community Primary School Nsugbe, Amumu Nsugbe water project as well as Umuanevili Eziagulu water project, Aguleri, among others.

At, Anambra East Local Government Area, the Transition Committee Chairman of the Council, Honourable Pius Ifeadi, acknowledged that the activities of UNICEF are not hidden as it has continued to tackle the challenges faced by the rural dwellers and applauded Governor Willie Obiano who has remained committed to the payment of the state counterpart fund.


The State Consultant Water Sanitation and Hygiene for Anambra East, Mrs. Amina Omihie explained that the media help to ascertain the present state of all projects by UNICEF and level of impact in the host community and assured that UNICEF through WASH will do more to ensure that the Local Government is declared open defecation free.



The UNICEF Media Consultant in Anambra state, Mrs. Franca Mmaduike, said that the media has brought to light the various landmarks recorded by UNICEF in collaboration with Governor Obiano and reminded the people of the need to take ownership of all the projects in their localities
