Christian Rowland Reporting for ODOGWU MEDIA.....The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State council, has decried the non execution of over 100 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) claimed to have been signed by Governor Ben Ayade within and outside Nigeria.

The Union in an eleven (11) point communiqué issued at the end of its congress signed by David Odey, Iloke Egbe and Monday Mbah, decried the attitude of Governor Ayade particularly as he has not fulfilled any of his promises ever since he came on board.

It insists “That there should be projects to show for the over 100 MoUs signed by the state government with investors. That the Governor, Prof Ben Ayade, should always honour all the promises he makes

The Union said “After an exhaustive deliberation on the appalling state of government owned media establishments in the state and other dilapidated infrastructure as well as other pressing issues by members of the union at the congress, it was unanimously resolved as follows.

“That the attention of the state government be drawn to the abject neglect of the state owned newspaper, the Nigerian Chronicle which was in the past a flourishing outfit that circulated daily to as far as Kano but has now become a shadow of its past with decrepit facilities and cannot circulate up to Ikom within the state after it declined to a weekly.

“That the state owned broadcasting corporation, CRBC, that used to run for 24 hours now barely runs for 7 hours due to poor funding and urgent steps should be taken to revive the outfit.

“That the newsroom of the Ministry of Information urgently needs a makeover as it has become an eyesore, with leaking roof. That government owned journals such as Giant Strides and Kaleidoscope that showcased government’s completed projects be revived.

“That state government should stop its aversion for and snubbing the NUJ in the state. That the collapsed roads in the state, especially the axis of the Calabar –Akpabuyo highway, be repaired urgently to end the hardship being experienced by motorists and commuters in the state.

“That facility at the General Hospital should be upgraded to end the harrowing condition patients are currently facing. That government should ensure regular supply of potable water in the state.

“That steps should be taken to conduct local government election in the state after elected chairmen ended their tenure since December 2016.
