2ND SYNOD OF AWKA DIOCESE.AWKA DIOCESE CELEBRATES 40 YEARS
ANIVASSARY AND ALSO THE 10TH EPISCOPALCEREMONY OF THE BISHOP.

The Bishop of Awka diocese, most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor in chat with the press on Friday disclosed that the diocese will start their 2nd synod on Sunday been 5th November to 11th 2017. According to the Bishop he said that the first synod was cerebrated 16years ago by his predecessor his lordship Simeon Okafor.The Bishop explained that the synod is meeting together of the clergy, bishops,and the faithfuls to
discuss the issues that will move the church forward. While stressing on the theme of the synod which he said is THY KINGDOM COME JOURNEYING WITH GOD IN AWKA DIOCESE. He went further to say that the event will also feature people from various parish to represent their people.
The chairman of the synod preparatory committee, Rev. Fr. Blaise Emego revealed that the group is made up thirty- five priest,lay men and scholars. He said that the inauguration took place on 3rd November but the promulgation decree was on 5th of November. He said that the first task was the document that guided them, all the prayers and discussion about the synod, after that the second document was showing
people the way and that the greater wok came from the people.The chairman said that the working document which he refer as the instrumental laborers was issued out too, which allow peoples to make
their contribution from different parishes.He expressed his happiness over the success of the synod preparation and thanked the Bishop for his enormous support.
The diocesan chancellor, Rev, Fr. Francis Chidume spoke on the legal implication of the synod which he said is the convocation of the synod by the Bishop which is prerogative to the church stating that it is a portion of the people of God entrusted on the Bishop. He also said that the convocation of the synod by the Bishop is arguably one the apostolic work of the Bishop towards the church. He oversees it,
presides it and signs the synod act. said he.
The secretary to the synod committee Rev. Fr. Lawrence Nwankwor asserts that the synod is part of the event marked to celebrate 40years anniversary of the Diocese. He disclosed that it is an approach for everybody to be more committed in the church. Reacting to the theme THY KINGDOM COME JOURNEYING WITH GOD IN AWKA DIOCESE. he said that God is already here among us adding that the kingdom of God is not somewhere but for us to do the right thing within our various society. He went further to say that the theme came as a result to subject of what is obtainable at the moment in the society while journeying with God is the dedication of our faith towards God. The synod focuses on the various themes which include marriage, family and education as hangers to the church and to make sure the word of the lord is permeated in every part of the society.
