UPP primary turns bloody as ward chairman killed, Offodile withdraws from Governorship race

www.odogwublog.com reports that Chairman of Owelle Ezunaka ward 1 and a delegate at the ongoing United Progressive Party (UPP) primary election for Anambra state Governorship election, Mr. Uwakwe Mmaduabuchi has been confirmed dead.

Late Mmaduabuchi died following a riot at the accreditation center at the GeoGold hotel in Awka, Anambra State. Hon Offodile Chudi and Hon Osita Chidioka were to contest for the ticket before the incident.

UPP is led by Chief Chekwas Okorie.

Our source said the tensed mood was sequel to a riot which erupted following noticed irregularities in the delegate’s accreditation. Thugs allegedly arrived and began to push and harass the UPP delegates, before security forces moved in to control the situation. It was uncontrollable and they began to shoot tear gas canisters.
It could not be confirmed whether the deceased died of gunshot wounds or tear gas even as the police is yet to confirm the incident.

Meanwhile, Hon Chudi Offodile has allegedly withdrawn from the governorship race. It was not clear why he did so and www.odogwublog.com could not independently confirm the reasons but it was the news at the accreditation center at GeoGold hotels Awka from where the delegates would be moved to Emmaus House Awka for voting.
If true that Offodile has thrown in for the contest , it means former FRSC Boss Chidioka Osita is the sole candidate for the UPP.
