The Yoruba Will Never Choose A Leader For Us Again The North Vows
Buhari
That the North is unhappy with
the health challenges of President Buhari is obvious. Sad they are that once bitten
twice shy, but twice bitten, ten hold foolish they have become. By fault or
design, how helpless they have become that the Yoruba now determines, who among
them will be selected to lead Nigeria.
President Buhari has been away on medical leave for months that Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, now functions in his capacity. Is Osibanjo capable of handling the mantle of leadership, is not the question here. Buhari is still alive, despite his health challenges. Let leave that aspect of what happens if... Death and life is God’s hand.
Arising from series of meetings in the North, particular in the core north, we gathered that the unfortunate health predicament of President Buhari, has made major stakeholders from that region to vow that when next they have the opportunity to produce a leader for the country that no ethnic group will do that for them, not even for other political posts they asserts will be left for others to determine for them, they will be in charge. Never to be powerless again they promise themselves.
Buhari had unsuccessfully run for
the office of president in the 2003, 2007 and 2011 general elections. In
2003, and 2007 Buhari he ran for the presidency under the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP). In 2011 presidential elections, he was the Congress for Progressive Change
(CPC) flag bearer. Collapsing his CPC into All Progressives Congress party (APC), Tinubu
anointed Buhari for the 2015 Presidential election as a candidate of the All Progressives Congress party, which he
won.
Some of the Northern elders
claimed that Tinubu had ulterior motive for choosing Buhari, who they argued
knew about his health challenge. Expressing their sadness, they felt they were
the one to be making such decision for other ethnic groups in Nigeria. Recall
that ahead of the 2017 presidential election, President Olusegun Obanjo picked
Umaru Yar’Adua to run for presidency despite having health issues.
