Nnewi PG escapes lynching

www.odogwublog.com reports that the chairman of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi, Anambra state, Chief Ugochukwu Udemezue yesterday escaped lynching during the foundation laying ceremony of the association's new secretariat in the industrial town.

The guests invited for the ceremony had already seated waiting for the commencement of the program when some youths from Uruagu-Nnewi stormed the venue and were chanting war songs, causing pandemonium in the process.

The Uruagu-Nnewi through their PG, Charles Nwonye alleged that the land upon which the secretariat was to be cited belong to them and that the community would not tolerate any attempt to armtwist them of their ancestral heritage.

In the course of heated argument, the situation almost degenerated to a free for all fight with the chairman of Nzuko-Ora being the major target of the rampaging youths who said enough is enough of intimidation from other quarters of the industrial town.

It was the timely intervention of the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) in charge of Central Police Station(CPS) Nnewi, Mr Hassan Musa(CSP) who passionately appealed to the youths to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign.

The youths however insisted that the foundation laying ceremony for the new secretariat can not fly until the Uruagu-Nnewi community is paid adequate compensation for the land they are about lose.

When it became obvious that the youths were not ready to shift ground not minding the large presence of local vigilante operators and other law enforcement agents, the DPO then urged the paramount traditional ruler of the town, Igwe KON Orizu, the chairman of Nzuko-Ora, Chief Udemezue and other guests to postpone the ceremony until the land issue is amicably resolved.

Udemezue condemned the activities of the youths claiming that it is capable of denying Nnewi the much needed development.
